Someone told me that some of microsoft's software will release a virus if you tried to copy it! Is this a stupid myth or is this true? If it is , what should I stay away from?

I would consider this a stupid myth.

The only way to get a virus in a MS download would be if you get it from an unauthorized site.

This is total rubbish, in most countries it is ilegal to infect computers and spread a virus's, so, i doubt very much if microsoft is doing such a thing as this would mean a lot of lawsuits will be filed against microsoft.
