Memorex DL burner 3202 3288

I recently bought a Memorex DL burner, part number 3202 3288. I always update the firmware first thing, but it just was not possible. I called support twice, and they told me that there was no firmware for this device. I pointed out that firmware was available on Memorex's website, and learned the following.

They put out a number of different versions of a burner with a single model number. Sure enough, AnyDVD identifies the burner by the name:

MEMOREX DVD+-RAM 510L V1 MWS7.

They say that Memorex uses different chipsets, and that no firmware was available for this chipset. That's odd, because this burner has been on the market for at least a year and a half.

There were a lot of language difficulties during both calls, but I got the impression that they wanted to return this machine and try to get one with a different chipset. The burner got a lot of good reviews.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Thanks, oldjoe--

I found that firmware, too. When I try to install it, I get an error message saying that it is not for my drive. Not all 3202 3288s are 510L.

I tried to find some info for that drive and came out with squat. Memorex: Just like their media, hard to tell who actually made it.

HP,the same: 640c,640d,640i,and probably another model mixed in there-and all totally different lightscribe burners.

Memorex did use some good drives- Benq,Liteon.

Does that burner work?

I'll look around for some more info.

The only other possibility would be to open up the case. Perhaps the manufacturer's name is on the optical drive. Opening the case will, most likely, void your warranty.

memorex burner

I updated to a new beta of anyDvd, downloaded cloneCD, and it's working great now--burned my first DL disc last night and it played with no glitches. Thanks for all your help.
