Hello,
I’ve been trying to back up some of my DVDs and have been consistently getting an error. I had not been having difficulties with this error until approximately 1 ½ weeks ago. I’ve tried a restore to my computer to an earlier point in time without luck. My reader is a TSST corp CDRWDVD TS-H493B and my DVD writer is DVD+-RW TS-H653B. I’m trying to write to Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL (made in Singapore). I get about 50% through the write and get an error “media write error”. Under the details tab it reads “WriteDVD 10 11 W2”. I’ve tried a 2-2.4x and 4x burn both with error results.

I’ve updated my burner’s firmware

I’ve tried to remove packet writing software from my system. I did not see any packet writing software using ImgBurn Tools > Filter Driver Load Order I saw:

Musicmatch Jukebox – I don’t have it. But just incase I searched for the file mim.exe and did not find it.

I went throught the thread http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=1307 and did not have any of the programs listed. I also searched for each of the conflicting flies listed in the thread and did not find any.

I tried the thread http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=145424&postcount=1 to use the new writedvd.dll. No luck.

Attached is my log file. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Something has changed

Software does not fail this way, hardware does. If you have been merrily burning and suddenly can't anymore you have to look hard at the hardware.
Never burn a single layer blank at less than 4x.

Since AnyDVD does not have a thing to do with burning, the log is of no value for this issue.

Good that you updated firmware and the DLL but that issue is a hard stop and hang if the drive can not correctly handle bit-setting.

Your error has yet to be seen as caused by a software error OTHER THAN a conflicting product fighting for access to the drive. And that is not so here.

Let's see the log data from CloneDVD as a TXT file attached here.

Are these blanks Verbatim Datalife Plus? These are normally good.

I suspect your burner wants to retire. See this:

http://www.cdspeed2000.com/

and test your burner with the function in that tool.

Yeah, that's a writer

CDRWDVD TS-H493B

That's not a dvd burner.

CDRWDVD indicates a a rewriteable cd drive, but not a rewriteable dvd drive--the point being that the Anydvd log file wasn't created with the burner as instructed.

The Anydvd logfile given from the burner is useful for a number of reasons (not just seeing driver and filter info, which I can see regardless of drive used, but also seeing if the drive may be potentially failing to read properly as well). In fact, the Anydvd .log zip is entirely useful for troubleshooting most issues, including WriteDVD 10 11 W2 errors (I have resolved a number of them on these forums as result from looking at them).

Well, while I agree that it's possible your dvd burner is dying (the capacity to burn +R DL properly is one of the first things to typically die), other possibilities exist as well.

"Part of Sonic Burning engine, it's made by prassi/veritas and licensed to Sonic. Comes with Winamp and (older versoins of) Digion Audio. "--http://www.cdr-zone.com

While doubtful, it is possible this filter is causing a conflict with Clonedvd on your system.

1.
i) Create a backup of your registry: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756
ii) Download imgburn. It's a free program: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
(it's also an excellent program imo)
iii) Go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order. Select "PxHelp20". Click "Remove Selected Filter". "Click "ok".
iv) Reboot

Whatever program installed that filter will no longer work properly.

2. The Ts-h653b is an OEM Samsung dvd burner. It can be successfully crossflashed to a Samsung SH-S203B (so you can stop relying on Dell firmware): http://club.cdfreaks.com/f105/dell-tsst-ts-h653b-samsung-sh-s203b-crossflash-success-244305/
and http://club.cdfreaks.com/f105/crossflashing-ts-h653b-using-samsung-firmware-251196/

a) The SH-S203B works perfectly fine with Clonedvd. I have one

b) The Dell firmware (older versions of it anyway) have caused problems for people in the past--and not just with Clonedvd

So, it is possible that crossflashing may help you (which I will not be supporting here. If you're interested, post in the Cdfreaks' Samsung forum). It's also possible as Frank noted that your drive is dying.

I know for a fact the SH-S203B works with the official Clonedvd download (I haven't tried the alternate DLL with that drive, however--but I see no reason why it wouldn't work).

I suspect your burner wants to retire. See this:

and test your burner with the function in that tool.

I ran the test and came up with:
[05:09:25] Drive:
[05:09:25] Drive: TSSTcorpDVD+-RW TS-H653B D400
[05:12:17] Disc: DVD+R DL, DVD+R DL, RITEK S04
[05:12:21] Creating Data Disc
[05:16:18] Error! - SCSI status 0

I selected the create data disc and came up with the above error. The graph only traveled to 1.0 out of the 8.0 on the bottom scale. Does this mean my drive is failing?

[05:12:17] RITEK S04

That isn't Verbatim+R DL (you're using junk)

SCSI status 0

That typically indicates a communication error (scsi sense isn't being detected at all). As for why that's happening, I'm not sure (could be drive; could be a couple of other things), but if that's happening in general for you, it may be time for Dell to run a diagnostic on your system.
