A question of curiosity from personal experience. Just backed up a used(and abused)DVD of Amadeus My Reader would get to 98% then give error msg., I then decided to try it in my burner and it read perfectly and burned fine. Are burners made to tighter or looser tolerances than readers, or is it device differences or production run variations that might cause a disc to fail in one or another?
 
Possibly your DVDRW has a better quality lense than your reader?
