Well, I think there is a solution but I don't think I can talk about it here, might get in trouble and get kicked or banned. I can't remember the thread but it's out there and talks a bunch about this same issue with no real help, from what I can tell. From what I can see when you do an uninstall of AnyDvd, it doesn't do a true and total clean uninstall, leaves some behind so you can't just uninstall the trial and then reinstall every 21 days, makes sense. But if someone gets a horked install, you have no recourse to fix it because it sees that is has been on the system before and and won't do a true clean install. I have been all through the registry and can't find where they hide the hooks to show it has been installed on the system, once again makes sense on Slysoft's part. But there needs to be something that can be done to help people that have a bad install with out doing a format. Try a Google and see what you can find, remember I can't say too much. Hope this helps in some way.

Try doing it from Windows safe mode. You may want to try installing Anydvd from there as well.

Well, waxman may be correct. This might be the same issue. It does sound like a corrupt installation of some sort.

I'm saving this post to get down to business with tomorrow. I have been at this problem for 2 solid days and between installing, uninstalling, scanning and reading posts, I'm exhausted. I really appreciate your input. Thanks so much. I just hope your suggestions don't prove to be beyond my capabilities. I'm not really a newbie but darn close to it.

It's ok to be a noob, we all were at one time, and I am still really new on this site. I don't have all the answers but I would like to try something and see if it works for you. I just can't come right out and talk about it, I am sorry. Maybe something can be found on a Google or something like that. But there is one thing I would like to try, I think it would work for you.

Now I have to go look up booting up in safe mode. Haven't done it in a while. I'll try anything to get this working.

Did it. Same results. Message saying I don't have a DVD driver, or it isn't installed blah blah etc etc then a corrupted file message from McAfee. Am looking into other software. AnyDVD sure hasn't been much help.

Have you updated or changed any of your DVD drives? Added any new software? I have heard of zone alarm doing some funky things. You could possibly look at doing a system restore to when AnyDvd was working on the system.

There's something on his or her system that is interfering in some manner with the installation, and it's likely a third party application or a setting in Mcaffee that is now permanently blocking a file.

If the person owns AnyDVD then i'd recommend removing Mcafee and trying to install again. If it now works then you are right, Webslinger. If not, well, we at least can remove one possiblity as to the cause. Why throw away the money if it's yet another example of how Symantec and Mcafee can cause headaches [and an example of why I couldn't be paid a million dollars to use their software].

No, it's not quite that simple. I've seen cases where antivirus programs have blocked files, and then after that antivirus program was uninstalled--the file was still being blocked (I had to go through registry settings and left over "quarantined" files to get someone else's system working properly again). The OP has also had one McAfee tech tell the OP that he or she has a virus on her system, and if that's true, as far as I'm concerned the issue hasn't been addressed, regardless of whether freeware AVG hasn't found anything (which I do not trust; I have seen it fail virus bulletin's tests in the past--granted most of them in the early 2000s, but it was enough to never make me trust the product again)

Reports of buffer overflows and other problems.

A series of vulnerabilities have been discovered and patched in Grisoft's AVG Antivirus. Several issues with archive handling could be exploited to cause buffer overflows, while some other problems with file handling, including DOC and EXE files, could be used to create a denial of service.

AVG, the popular free edition of which is subject to the problems as well as other versions, has been updated with patches for the vulnerabilities. Secunia has rated the problems 'highly critical'; its alert is here, while a brief announcement of the update from Grisoft is here.

Secunia is also carrying an alert, marked 'moderately critical', on a nebulous issue with FRISK's F-PROT, which apparently could also be exploited to cause a buffer overflow leading to denial of service or remote system access. No further details on the problem or any necessary patches are as yet available, but users are advised to keep an eye out for updates. The alert is here.

I uninstalled McAfee and installed AVG and it still happened. I went back to McAfee as AVG was stopping some 3rd party downloads. I got one new drive about 4 months ago and another about a month before that. I have never had a problem using them and have downloaded and installed other upgrades of AnyDVD since getting them. I uninstalled Spy Bot and a couple of other programs that were suggested might be causing the problem. Some music program. I've had no Zone programs in years. My son-in-law is coming over tomorrow and I'm going to ask him to check the drives as he is the one that originally installed them. I really doubt it's them. The thing is, I have used them to copy programs after I had the problems with AnyDVD. I just used my CloneDVD2 and it copied them without a problem. I have also used DVD X Platinum and it worked fine.
I also had a chat with a McAfee tech and he said he didn't think it was MCAfee but to uninstall McAfee and reinstall each program separately to see if one of them is doing it. I still haven't done that.

Anti-Virus Programs

I hate all of them. Too bad we have to use them. I've tried so many of them I've lost count. Have been satisfied with McAfee for a couple of years.

I doubt the issue is with your drives. I believe you either have a virus on your system--or another program on your system has conflicted with Anydvd in some manner leaving you with a corrupt installation.
