I did check the FAQ but didn't see anything.

1x is recommended, but what impact might a higher setting have? Glitches in the .mp4, account being flagged/suspended at streaming provider for unusual download behaviour or something else?

Glitches no, account flagged is theoretically possible. That said, I've been using nothing but max speed setting since closed beta began in April. No negative effect whatsoever.
