Let us know your HTPC specs

NICE drive. I wish I could have found one when I was getting my GGC, but, I couldn't afford the extra for it anyway. That's ok, there's always the next HTPC I build for the bedroom. :D I'll PROBABLY take this one that I just built and move it to the bedroom. Then I'll build a new one from scratch for the living room. But, I need a tv for the bedroom first and that's not happening for a little while.

I got it from SVP it was either that or the GGC what you have but for the extra £37ish it seemed the better choice plus the other is out of stock
http://svp.co.uk/product/lg_ggwh20l_blu_ray_writer_hd_dvd_reader_drive_44089

Damn that's a really good price for that. At current exchange rates that's around 370 USD give or take a buck or two. You did much better than me I think! :)

Well over here your talking £110ish just for a single format reader with the GGC at around £140 just need BD50s to come down in price SVP only have a TDK BD50 and its £27.99 with Verbatim BD-R50 at £9.45 and BD-RW50 at £10.70 so for now im going to use Rw-Writables for testing with.

Since this is my first turn with blu-ray exackly how tough is the hard surface coating

Nova you havent said how you connect your audio up.
Im assuming you have 6 speakers etc.

I would recomend you get a xi-fi or auzentec and use PCM out.

If I recomended some cables would $250 or so be exceptable?

Any recommendations would be apreciated. I currently use a cheap C-media 8768 audio card and send the audio to my receiver via optical S/PDIF. I`m glad you asked because I need a card with analog 6 channel output so I can listen to DTS HD and Dolby Digital Plus audio since S/PDIF down converts it to DTS on my receiver. I would need a set of 5.1 channel cables, 20ft long to go from my card to my receivers L/R/LR/RR/Center/Sub RCA analog inputs. $250 may be a little high for me, but I`ve seen people spend $100+ for a 2 ft HDMI cable. My 25 ft HDMI cable cost me $50 on ebay and shows no difference (at least to me) than when I used a freinds $200 HDMI cable. But I suppose that a 20 ft run of cables may end up costing me quite a bit anyway

Here is what I output my audio to:
Yamaha RXV-995 Receiver 100x5
Yamaha MX1000U Amplifier 260 watt x 2 (pre-out from receiver for front ch)
Yamaha MX800 Amplifier 170 watt x 2 (pre-out from receiver for rear ch)
Yamaha GE60 Graphic Equalizer (used for front speakers via analog connection)
Definitive Technology BP7001SC Bi Polar front tower speakers
Definitive Technology CLR2300 Center Speaker
Definitive Technology BPX Bi Polar Rear Speakers

.

Datus, Sorry I didnt remember that you recently recommended a card and cables to me on an earlier post. I would like to find a 20ft+ cable assembly 3.5" mini to RCA. I may have to buy (6) 20ft RCA cables and attach them to the cables you recommend to me for the additional length. Nova935

Nero 7 and 8 Ultra. I just bought an Antec P180 / P182 case for $44.99 from frys.com not too long ago to rebuild the Quad system in. I’m also looking at buying this LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray Burner but its out of stock:

Not a bad price IMO.

noise levels are very reasonable (much less than my 360 with no disc in for example)

storage is a synology cs407 with 4 hitachi 1TB hardrives in raid5 and i also have a thecus n4100 with about 2TB of space but it is usually turned off now because its fucking noisy, once the synology starts to run out of space i will either replace the fans in the thecus or relocate it to somewhere it cant annoy me

tv is a samsung le32r74bdx, its probably the next thing i will upgrade although i could do with some sort of 5/6/7.1 sound system as well

Both my HTPC machines are older, PCI/AGP based units, so I don't see the point of posting details.

Were I building a new one, it would be PCIe and Core 2 Duo all the way, which is why I consider myself fortunate that what I have works as well as it does.....

I remember you now. Hi there.
Ok remind me why your HTPC isnt by your amp again.
.
My HTPC is actually a full size tower living below my computer desk on the opposite side of the room. I have unfortunately run out of room on the wall near my TV, audio components, dvd changers and speakers. See attached photos.
