It was the burner
I have to apologize to CloneDVD. After trying everything that people suggested, I just couldn't get good dvds made anymore. My dvd burner is a few years old, so I bit the bullet and bought a new Sony external dvd burner.
Solved the problem immediately.
For others that may be having the same problem, here's what was happening:
1. The first half of the dvd would play fine. When the dvd would get toward the second half of the movie, especially near the end, the sound would skip, the video would pixilize more and more AND MORE and would finally freeze.
If you're having a similar problem, I would suggest that your dvd burner may have seen better days.
I really appreciate all of those who took the time to respond.
