La La Land Blu-Ray rips fine, but has color banding

The La La Land Blu-Ray rips with no problems, but during viewing the color balance changes slightly, cycling through about 4 subtle variations before repeating. Close inspection shows what looks like faint horizontal bands of color behind the image, almost like a TV ghost from the old broadcast days. This only happens on La La Land, no other rips. It's most visible in darker sequences, like the dance sequence at 31 minutes in. Seems to become more visible from there on. Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks for your help. Turns out the version of VLC used by Kodi 15.x for Mac has this issue, but the versions in earlier and later builds do not. I was fooled by the fact that no other rip seems to show any artifacts with 15.x. I've just learned to distrust even the most stable engines. :-/
