Hi Matthew,
I'm running DK2 v 1.7. As such, it's not actually DK2 that's the problem; I've got a 'working' profile that runs it just fine, it just leaves my PC in a slightly more brain-dead state than usual (no new programs etc.). Is there anything that I should be able to tell you when the PC is in this state? Is there anything that 12824.exe should do/tell/demonstrate when it's left lying around?
I admit that the more recent DK2 profile (that you've been testing) has problems of its own on my system but they're almost of no import until the 'hangover' goes away. I'll have to re-boot this after this post as I ran the DK2 profile to get the version number, and that now means no new programs (I ran this browser beforehand) will run, so anything that I can get to tell you about the hangover might help.
I guess it might be worth commenting that 12824.exe is the nearest thing to bullet-proof that I've ever seen on a Windows machine; it alone survives when the machine is shutting down, and if Windows tries to kill it (asking whether I want to kill it and lose unsaved work etc.), the kill attempt usually fails. The hardware reset button on the motherboard is the next resort before losing patience and switching the PSU off. If you made this the core of Windows 7, the damn thing would never die. Interestingly, the same DK2 profile has worked with 3.2.0.6, .7 and .8 without recreation. Equally, it creates a braindead machine at the end of the run. if there's any way of getting sense out of it...
all the best,
Chris M
