How to install and uninstall Toshiba UDF 2.5 drivers in XP

James please hold my hand, I don't know how to find the temp directory...Thanks

Can anybody recomend one of two UDF 2.5 drivers:

Toshiba (UDF2.5 drivers) vs Microsoft (IMAPIv2.0)

Regards.

I've uninstalled the Toshiba drivers and installed the Microsoft drivers. Then I couldn't see anything in the 'File Explorer' when I mounted a bluray iso film.
I've installed again the Toshiba drivers and I saw again the files of bluray iso.

Recomendation: don't you uninstall the Toshiba drivers althought you can install the Microsoft drivers (I don't know the utility of this drivers of Microsoft).

Regards.

I'd like to thank the people that did the work to make this solution possible. The fact that it is really so simple once you have the toshiba files makes me weep yet again and ever more for Microsoft.

James please hold my hand, I don't know how to find the temp directory...Thanks

XP
press the windows symbol button (bottom right), then RUN. Type TEMP and press enter.

Vista
press the windows symbol button (bottom right), Type TEMP in the search field and press enter, and click the folder icon.

No "install" on right-click menu

I'm running XP Pro version 2002, Service Pack 3, and when I right click on the .inf file, the only items on the menu are "Open," "Cut," "Copy," "Delete," and "Properties." There is no "Install."

Why, OF COURSE there is "Install."

I was trying to install from inside the zip folder... never mind.

Installed but not doing any good

Got it to install and then re-booted, to no avail. Still says "No disc in drive D:"

My drive / works with this procedure

My drive is an LG GGW-H20. I have it working great now. It seems to me that the problem is a bug in the PowerDVD software, since it works as long as I follow this procedure:
1. Do not just fire up the PowerDVD program, but go through the Cyberlink Hi-Def Suite program and choose "Watch and HD DVD Movie" no matter what type of disk you are actually going to watch.
2. Do not put the disk in until the Hi-Def Suite has already booted up the PowerDVD program.

I've installed this model drive in over a hundred systems and have had no problems just running PDVD without going through the Hi-def suite interface, it seems it's more likely a conflict on your system

I apologize if I'm missing something that's already been addressed but I simply cannot get the UDF 2.5 driver to install on my XP Pro rig. See, I've not been able to get my new LG GGW-H20L to play a single Blu-ray disc yet, and throughout my search for a resolution I was directed to this thread by a fellow Afterdawn.com member. I've looked over the posts numerous times and tried as best I can to install the Toshiba UDF 2.5 driver in a manner described, but I'm either missing something in the posts or there's a bigger issue.

I downloaded the zipped version posted in this thread (for the 32-bit version of Windows XP Pro), unzipped it and tried various methods to install it but haven't gotten any further than the screen that says, "It is not possible to install on this system."

I've checked the aforementioned TEMP directory but mine is completely empty of any files/entries.

Can someone please take a stab at why this is happening and, more importantly, tell me how to install this driver.....please!?!?

TYIA!

You are the same person asking about this on the afterdawn site. Go to that thread and follow the latest instructions.

Toshiba UDF 2.5 issue

I found one issue: my PC (XP32 SP3) bluescreens when I put a multisession data BD-R in the drive and try to see it's contents with explorer. I burned the disc using Nero 7.11.10.0. Using IsoBuster to read the contents and to "extract" files from the Blu-Ray works fine.

Uninstalling the UDF driver resolved the bluescreening, but naturally I cannot see the contents of a single session Blu-Ray (like a movie) anymore.

UNable to play Blur Ray after installing UDF2.5driver

Can anyone help because I'm not able to use Cyberlink PowerDVD ver 7.3 to play my Blu ray disc after installing Toshiba UDF2.5 driver. Each time I placed a blu ray disc in my BD Rom drive , it always prompted me the following information:

"CyberLink PowerDVD does not support Blu Ray Disc playback on a virtual device. A Blu Ray Disc must be inserted into a BD-ROM Drive for playback

At the same time, I have no idea where should I placed the uninstall attached regsitry entry file provided by JAMES so that I can remove the UDF2.5 driver at the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAM.

Thanks for your assistance.

Assuming you have anydvd hd, you can check the option in settings for "PowerDVD 'virtual drive detected' workaround" (under video bluray). If you really want to uninstall the UDF drivers, just right click on the registry entry file (you have to extract it from the zip file first) and select merge, then go to add/remove programs and select uninstall for the Toshiba UDF drivers.

Sounds more like you have a borked system, as there is no reason for your BD drive to be seen as a virtual device.

Is there a XP 64bit version of this driver?

I am also running XP X64 and have been unsuccessful in finding a driver that will show a bluray being in the drive. I installed the Panasonic UDF driver which showed me the disc was in the drive but when I tried to play it with PowerDVD I got a message that it was an "Unrecognized Format" I also tried the microsoft fix which did nothing. Any help will be much appreciated.

Which microsoft file did you use and what happened? I too am using XP x64 (and don't want to upgrade because it doesn't fight my linux install). As far as I can see Microsoft doesn't offer a version for XP x64 - there's X86 and X64 for Vista and server 2003 but only an x86 version for XP.

eta: when I posted the above I was researching, since I use windows rarely I'm not all that skilled with it (Blu-ray in Linux unfortunately is problematic atm).

So, after booting into XP x64 I ran all the updates - first the high priority ones, then all the available updates for both software and hardware, rebooting along the way as update required.

After the final update, and before trying the Panasonic UDF x64 driver I tried a bluray disk (rental, first time for that too) and powerDVD opened and played it OK (after it too had had an update). More interestingly Windows explorer also opened and displayed the contents of the disk, and I can navigate around it OK. I didn't see the IMAPI update listed specifically anywhere but since I didn't install the Panasonic driver I assume somewhere along the line in the optional updates I got the microsoft UDF2.5 driver for XP x64.
