how can i watch movies on my computer?

what program should i use if i want to watch the saved versions from my hard drive? my wife is going to be gone for 120 days and would like to save movies to her external hard drive and have her take the hard drive with her to watch movies while she's gone?
 
Almost any DVD burning software should transfer the data to your HDD.
I suppose CloneDVD will do it.
 
Anything from WMP, MPC to VLC. I prefer MPC but I'm sure any would be fine if she just wants to watch the movies.
