High resolution for iPod 80 GB?

Apple advertises "Enjoy videos on the new iPod with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixel". But the display only offers 320 x 240 Pixel. Clone DVD mobile has three options for conversion of DVDs including the above mentioned plus a medium option.
Does it make sense to select from the Clone DVD mobile menu "iPod 5 G hires." and "640 x 480" though the display cannot deliver this res. Data will be 4 times the size, so it matters.
 
I have a Creative Vision: M and the res. is 320 x 240 Pixel but I always use the 640 x 480 incase I plug it into the TV or something so the quality is good.
