My DVD burner recently took a dump on me and I went and bought a HP dvd1040 USB external burner. I have had no problems burning DVD's before, but now I am. I put the DVD in the new drive and it loads in anydvd. I then go to DVD Shrink and open the disc in that. It opens and runs it's analysis. It is then ready to go. I hit the backup button and select where I want to save it and I get the following error:

Failed to read file D://
Copy Protection Error - The Read failed because the sector is encrypted.

Please help. What am I doing wrong now that I have this new external drive.
Thanks

Turn off AnyDVD then put the DVD into your drive so the region can be set properly. You can do this by letting the dvd play a little bit. Then removed the DVD reboot and turn back on AnyDVD.

Or . . .

i. Right click the fox on your toolbar. Exit Anydvd
ii. Click start. Right click on "My computer"--->select "properties".
iii.Click on the 'Hardware' tab--->click the 'device manager' button.
iv. Open the dvd/cdrom branch---> right click on your optical drive
v. Click "properties".
vi. You should have a region tab. From there you can select a region.
vii. Select the region that matches the region on the disc
viii. Start Anydvd
ix. click the fox icon on your toolbar. Go to Video dvd--->settings
x. Change the default to match the region on the disc
xi. Click Ok

I have now done all of those steps and I still get the same message. Any ideas on what I should do next.

This is a movie? What's the title?

Booty Call. I have also had no luck and same error message with every movie that I have tried. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here.

1. Anyway, you did ensure "burn with nero" was disabled in Shrink, right?

2. Click the red fox icon on your toolbar. Click the "default" button. Click "ok". Try again.

3. Click the red fox icon on your toolbar. Go to "Program Settings". Click "safe mode". Try again.

4.
a) Download imgburn. It's a free program: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
(it's also an excellent program imo)

b) Go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order. Click "Clipboard". Then paste the information you pasted into your clipboard into your next post (ctrl-v).

I ensured that it was disabled and I rebooted it. I then did step 2 and selected the default button. It is now working. I also did step 3 and and step 4. I pasted the information below. One thing I do notice now is that I don't have the option to select the drive as a backup file once the Nero has been disabled. I'm guessing this means I can't backup straight to a blank disc once it is done reading it. Is there anyone to fix this or should I use a different program such as Clone DVD or the ImgBurn? Thanks for all of your help. I hope it continues to work.

Your filters look fine.

It is now working . . . One thing I do notice now is that I don't have the option to select the drive as a backup file once the Nero has been disabled.

So do this now.

1. Update to Anydvd 6.1.7.2. click http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=7502

2. Click the red fox icon on your toolbar. Click the "default" button. Click "ok". (You don't appear to need "safe mode".)

3. Enable "burn with nero" in Shrink.

4. Try again.

If you find you have issues with "burn with nero" enabled, then leave it disabled.
