Hell or High Water Problem

anydvd version is 8.1.1.2

Title is Hell or High Water

I'm still not clear on how to get the UPC/EAN. There is a lionsget catalogue number 50356 on the disc.

Trying to Rip to Image with default options.

A few seconds after the rip starts, the blu ray drive spins real fast and then stops. Lights stop blinking and the drive is no longer found in windows devices. (its usb blu-ray drive). Anydvd continues writing, but at much higher rate and is not reading disc anymore.

Log attached.

Disable AnyDVD for a second, does windows see the disc now? If so, try making an ISO rip with IMGBurn, does that work?

1. restarted computer
2. Drive shows as BD-RE under This PC in explorer
3. anydvd is not running and I put disc in drive. Windows shows title in drive.
4. Start anydvd application. Anydvd finishes scanning the disc.
5. Right-click anydvd tray icon and click rip to image.
6. Drive almost immediately makes funny noises and stops doing anything. Lights on drive stop blinking within a couple/few seconds. No evidence of USB blu-ray drive in windoze explorer or device manager any longer after this happens. I will let Anydvd error out or finish...
7. Anydvd finishes with no error about three times faster than normal.
8. File does not play, obviously...
9. Shutdown anydvd. Blu ray player does not magically show up in windows again.

restart computer...

1. I tried using the Keep Protection option.
2. It gives Error reading from drive D:! Sectors: 42120-42149

You're doing the exact opposite of what I said. DISABLE anydvd for a moment and try ripping with ImgBurn. There's a reason for that. That will tell us if it's an anydvd problem or a disc/drive problem. But going by the fact that you say the drive doesn't reappear you've got a dead/dying drive and a defective disc. Read errors on a Blu-ray stuff are NEVER an anydvd problem

This http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download ?

Confirm and I'll give it a go.

Only the one hosted by Imgburn has the 'open candy' in it. All the ones from other mirrors are just Imgburn installers with no 3rd party junk..

complete log from imgburn below. So I guess its a bad disc causing read errors, and for whatever reason, anydvd doesn't error out with a read error.

It's the drive that gets removed for some reason, not the disc. Try a different cable

Agreed the drive is getting removed. Drive works with other discs.

Given that on this title anydvd errors out with a read error when the retain copy protection option is attempted, I'm inclined to think disc error over drive error...

I'd like an internal drive over a usb external drive, but I have a laptop and can't find one with a plastic plate that fits the molding on the side of my laptop. Maybe I'll get one anyway so I can further troubleshoot this stuff.

pretty sure the internal hardware is all the same size, the thing i think is different is the slot cover. But pretty sure you can remove that one from the old and place it on the new. Not 100% sure though on both things.

As Ch3vr0n said the bezel on the front of laptop drives is removable. I've built hundreds of laptops over the past decade and have to install the bare drives, you just need to be careful when removing the bezel from the front of the drive as it is easy to break the 2 clips holding it in place.

As to size, there are 2 different sizes, slim and Ultra slim.

Slim is 12.7mm thick and Ultra slim is 9.5mm thick.
Only other thing to watch out for is the connector on the back. If it's really old then it will use an old laptop 'mini IDE' connector. If it's modern (past 7 or 8 years) then it should use a mini SATA.

Looking at the specs of your internal DVD writer it should be a 12.7MM using mini SATA, but try removing it and checking the size first
