Is it possible to take an HD DVD disc and burn it as a DVD so I could play it back in a standard dvd player. Just curious
 
You would,nt want to do that even if you could. The amount of compression needed to fit the movie onto a DVD-R would make the movie look like crap. Better off staying with backing up your DVD's then trying what you stated above.
