GameJackal 3.0.0.0 beta (64 bit support)

This is odd... as I've said this has been tested over and over again without issue. Can you try the following test?
1) Open up the registry, then add a dummy entry to the UpperFilters and / or Lowerfilters values.
2) Run the installer, but do not reboot.
3) Check the registry, then dummy values should still be there.

I thought I'd try this out since I'm one of the ones having problems and run Vista 64 too. I added "DummyLower" and "DummyUpper" to the appropriate REG_MULTI_SZ keys in the registry, leaving me with this:

Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"Class"="CDROM"
"ClassDesc"="@%SystemRoot%\\System32\\StorProp.dll,-17001"
@="DVD/CD-ROM drives"
"IconPath"=hex(7):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,\
  74,00,25,00,5c,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,69,\
  00,6d,00,61,00,67,00,65,00,72,00,65,00,73,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,6c,00,2c,00,\
  2d,00,33,00,30,00,00,00,00,00
"Installer32"="storprop.dll,DvdClassInstaller"
"EnumPropPages32"="storprop.dll,DvdPropPageProvider"
"SilentInstall"="1"
"NoInstallClass"="1"
"UpperFilters"=hex(7):44,00,75,00,6d,00,6d,00,79,00,55,00,70,00,70,00,65,00,72,\

"LowerFilters"=hex(7):44,00,75,00,6d,00,6d,00,79,00,4c,00,6f,00,77,00,65,00,72,\
  00,00,00,00,00

Obviously regedit exports hex code instead of ascii ;)

I then installed GJ 3 beta 2, did not reboot, and the DVD registry key looked like this:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"Class"="CDROM"
"ClassDesc"="@%SystemRoot%\\System32\\StorProp.dll,-17001"
@="DVD/CD-ROM drives"
"IconPath"=hex(7):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,\
  74,00,25,00,5c,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,69,\
  00,6d,00,61,00,67,00,65,00,72,00,65,00,73,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,6c,00,2c,00,\
  2d,00,33,00,30,00,00,00,00,00
"Installer32"="storprop.dll,DvdClassInstaller"
"EnumPropPages32"="storprop.dll,DvdPropPageProvider"
"SilentInstall"="1"
"NoInstallClass"="1"
"UpperFilters"=hex(7):44,00,75,00,6d,00,6d,00,79,00,55,00,70,00,70,00,65,00,72,\
  00,00,00,6d,00,61,00,70,00,6c,00,6f,00,6d,00,00,00,00,00
"LowerFilters"=hex(7):44,00,75,00,6d,00,6d,00,79,00,4c,00,6f,00,77,00,65,00,72,\
  00,00,00,6d,00,61,00,70,00,6c,00,6f,00,6d,00,6c,00,00,00,00,00

Again, it is in hexcode, but viewing in regedit or converting shows that the "mapolm" and "mapolml" text is added to, respectively, the upper and lower filter REG_MULTI_SZ keys, and it can also be seen that they're separated properly from the dummy keys and not merging together with them.

Uninstalling GJ reverts the upper and lower filters back to the original state with the dummy filters intact, so it's definetely installing itself correctly on my machine.

When i install the new Windows update KB943899 with GJ 3.0.0.0 installed i get a boot error saying that Windows didn't shutdown correctly, i then select to boot Windows normally and Windows will start, but, sometimes (not all the time) i get another error after selecting boot normally, the error says that a file is missing or corrupt and Windows will fail to boot, it also says that i need to start my system with the Wondows DVD to repair Windows, all this also acurs when i uninstall the KB943899 update.

As soon as i uninstall GJ 3.0.0.0 the KB943899 update will install and uninstall without issue, i have tested this about 25-30 times and the installation of the KB943899 update only fails (on the reboot) when GJ 3.0.0.0 is installed, if i uninstall GJ 3.0.0.0 and reinstall GJ 2.9.18.610 the KB943899 update also installs/uninstalls without issue.

EDIT: The file that is being reported as missing or corrupt is C:\Windows\system32\drivers\volsnap.sys

BTW, I'm using Windows Vista 32bit.
@Matthew, would it be possible for you to look into the issue quoted above, i ask because i think this could effect a lot of people when the final is released.

Vista 32-bit and "No CD in drive"

I think Gears of War for the PC may also have the same issue (I am going to try a few more things).

Edit: Do you plan on updating the pre-made profile list?

i had win vista 32bit
now i dont :p

thank god for Windows home server...
this thing save my life...

Yes, I will look into it right after we get beta 3 out the door.

I was referring to the list of already made profiles on the drop down list. The default is Automatic, but there are specific games listed like Age of Empires 3, etc.

I was referring to the list of already made profiles on the drop down list. The default is Automatic, but there are specific games listed like Age of Empires 3, etc.

Those profiles are the ones that needed special treatment due to the copy protection used and such. If the copy protection has a list of sectors that changes based on the day of the month for example, the automatic profile method would only pick up on the sectors used on the day you create it. This means you would need to update the profile every day of the month for a full month to create a profile that works all the time. Other things like files that are read from the CD during game play would be another area a dedicated profile would help with.

The "best case" would be for Automatic to handle every game out there, but that isn't realistic, so we can select profiles to get around that.

Windows XP64

I did not see anyone else posting about X64 so I will.

After install no DVD drives. Uninstalled GJ they came back.

Other than that it looks like it works.

Again this is Windows XP 64Bit. This is with Beta 3

EDIT: It looks like it is version 3 Beta 2. :doh:

Works fine under Windows XP x64 fully updated and patched after copying the files from SysWOW64\drivers.

:D

Sorry Guys, I am stupid. :doh:

JT999 is correct, seems to be working under Windows XP 64Bit.

Someone does not know how to read directions. I copied files to C:\WINDOWS\system32 not to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers

When they are moved to the correct spot GE loads fine.

Any ideals on the correct signed drivers. A rough ETA?

Well... here's the thing!

We signed the drivers as required. However, during testing we started to experience BSOD on our Vista 64 bit test machine. This machine was not the same as our original test machine and so has caused concern and a delay in the beta 3 release.

After some investigation it was discovered that the test machine was a clean install of Vista64 and had not had a single patch. We updated the system with the latest patches and updates and the BSOD disappeared.

However, we need to be 100% convinced that the BSOD's have been resolved before we release beta 3.

This is not a complaint just some info for you guys.

Using Beta 2

Installed under XP Pro 32Bit

Crysis profile builds fine, and plays fine under normal and image profile.

Installed under XP Pro 64Bit

Crysis will start the game load for a few secs. then exit and build profile. (does not work)
Other times it will do the short load, then exits and starts to build the profile it locks up and you need to reboot.
Once it loaded all the way up and I exited, GJ started the profile and about 5 mins. later it locked up building the profile.

I have installed the same profile key on both versions and copied the profile info from the 32bit to the 64bit GameJackal and Crysis will load for a few sec. then exit.

XP 32 and XP 64 are on the same computer, installed in different boot partitions, completely hidden from each other.

GJ Beta 2 has worked on everything else I have tried so far.

THANKS for working on the 64Bit version. :)

Ok... we need to clarify a few things here.
1) The reason users cd/dvd drives are not showing up is because the Game Jackal drivers are not being found during boot (because they were installed in the incorrect location). This will prevent the driver stack from loading up correctly and hence Windows will no longer see the the cd/dvd drive(s). To over come this issue copy the drivers as described in the first post.
2) Removing the maplom and maploml entries from the registry simply prevents the Game Jackal drivers from loading... in which case GJ will not work.

So... to sum up. The registry should be left as changed by the installer and the drivers need to be copied as per the first post.

Now once we have determined that the drivers and installed correctly... then we can look at those users still having issues with cd/dvd drives missing after a reboot.

I'm running Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Here is what I did:
1. Created a restore point
2. Installed Game Jackal (no errors)
3. Copied maplom.sys and maploml.sys from C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\Drivers to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers
4. Rebooted

When I started my drive was gone.
I've double checked and the files are in the correct location.

Here is my registry (slightly altered for readability here):

This beta will not work at all with Vista64 because the drivers are not signed correctly.

heh, now im lost.. how can you not sign a driver correctly?
its a one/two step process at best..

.\sign\signcode -spc ".\sign\slysoft.spc" -v ".\sign\slysoft.pvk" -t "http://timestamp.verisign.com/scripts/timstamp.dll" -n "gamejackal" .\gj.exe

thats method 1

.\sign\signtool sign /f ".\sign\slysoft.pfx" /t "http://timestamp.verisign.com/scripts/timestamp.dll" /v "gj.exe"

method 2
