Duke Nukem Forever dead or not?

As has been reported in numerous online locations, 3D Realms, the developer for Duke Nukem Forever is closing up shop. Yet another gaming studio loss. The truly sad part is this may truly be the final long exhale for a game that has been "coming" since 1997. Duke Nukem Forever is truly a legend among stories of vaporware. It's been 12 years since this game was announced and yet there has been no release.

Having said that, Fudzilla has posted a new article on the topic of 3D Realms and the game:

    Source & full story: http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13608&Itemid=1

Since 3D Realms doesn't own the publishing rights to the game it's not necessarily just as simple as selling the game to someone else. Seeing names like id Software, Epic, and EA is interesting, however. Apparently Take 2 Interactive has publishing rights.

Some gamplay has been leaked which may be in an effort to get someone to provide the capital to finish the project.

Refer to GameTrailers.com for the leaked gameplay: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/316675.html

It should be noted that another studio is working on a Duke Nukem project and that shouldn't be impacted at all by the loss of 3D Realms and the Duke Nukem Forever title. I just can't remember the name of the other project or the name of the studio.

The truly sad part is the fact that this title was announced 12 years ago! It's simply astounding even to think about the evolution of graphics technologies in gaming in those 12 years. This is the epitome of "vapor-ware". When I think of Duke Nukem Forever I shelve the idea right next to Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose (H-4 Hercules).
