First, I am not very computer savvy. I do not speak the language. Nor, do I understand all of the terms. I use AnyDVD HD and Clone DVD2 because they usually don't require a whole lot of knowledge, which I appreciate. However, I am having an issue now that I can't figure out. After I have copied the movie files to my computer I am trying to transfer them to a blank DVD. It will not transfer the files. I get a media error. After reading many, many questions that appear to be similar I have still not found my answer. I will try to give all the information that I have seen requested. If something is not there it is more than likely because I do not know what it is or I do not know how to get it. I am using Windows 10 OS. My blank DVDs are Phillips DVD+R DL. I was able to get a log file from CloneDVD2 but can not find the create log file option on AnyDVD HD.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

When you get to the "Output Method" in CloneDVD, you are probably selecting the "DVD Files" option which will copy the files to your hard drive. If you select the "DVD Writer" option, it will burn those files to a blank disc. If you have two drives, you can put the original in one drive and the blank in the other. Otherwise after the reading process is done, it will tell you to remove the original and insert a blank, then will burn it to the blank.

If you are wanting to copy the files to your hard drive, then later burn to a disc, then from the Start Screen, select "Write Existing Data" and browse to where the files are.

This is all covered in the very well written (with pictures) HELP function, Top Right, next to the ? in CloneDVD.

If he's getting 'media error' then he's not selecting the 'dvd files' output option. As far as clonedvd2 is concerned a 'media' is a blank optical disc, not a hard drive. Meaning if he's getting z media error he is on the proper output tab (burner/drive selection) for burning the files to disc. What i suspect here is a case of cheap crappy blanks that the drives don't 'like' and as such refuse to be burned onto.

First, Thank you for responding. I do have DVD writer selected, I only have one disc drive, and I am not wanting to write to a DVD later. I have read the help files, bu I am not seeing anything that covers my issue.

Thank you for responding. I know that media means my blank discs. I am using the same discs I have used for years. I have never had this issue before now. Could it be my disc drive?

Can you try another burning program? Like Imgburn etc. Just write something to a disc. If that is not possible your drive is defective.

Not so fast. Using a different program won't fix anything if you're using cheap crappy blanks (like RITEK based ones). Which is why we need to know the Media-ID / Disc-ID, and thats where imgburn can come in handy. It's visible under "explore" mode.

...but the drive should still write. If it doesn't write at all the drive is defectice.

Nope, not if it can't even get the lead-in track started, thats a part of the write cycle before it begins writing the actual data you want written. I've personally experienced it with IMGBurn on cheap riteks. Drive recognized the blank, immediately failed on the lead-in part. Inserted a blank DVD+R, burned just fine.

If the drive is dead it will not even make it to the lead-in.

Correct but if it does make it to the lead in and immediately fails it's still functional. None of that we know ATM, we need to know the blanks MID in order to rule out the cheap crappy blanks variable.

Your drive / laser is dead.

Not so fast, again.

He's using CMC Magnetics, those are bottom of the barrel Ritek "quality" cheap crappy blanks. It's very possible the drive just can't get an optimal strength using those crappy blanks. Trying some quality verbatim blanks might fix it. If they're still around after CMC bought them.

Hope never dies... But this drive is dead. I bet. What are the quotes?
