I have used clonedvd and anydvd for years without a problem, but recently my computer locks up big time when I get to the settingup media, erasing, writing stage???

Using good media (DL in this case). I can actually put the media on the harddrive, but get into the problem during the media transfer stage.

    1. Use Anydvd 6.3.1.6 beta: click http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=92414&postcount=1

You may need to reboot after installing if prompted to do so.

    2. Click the red fox icon on your toolbar. Click "default". Click "ok".

    3. Use the latest Clonedvd: click http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=84511&postcount=1

    4. Visit your burner's website, and update your burner's firmware if possible.
If you don't know how to go about doing this, visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=12794&postcount=10

    5.

    A)
    a) Ensure Anydvd is running.
    b) Put the problematic original movie dvd in your burner. Wait for Anydvd to scan the disc.
    c) Right click the red fox icon on your toolbar.
    d) Select "Create Logfile"
    e) Wait for Anydvd to create a log file.
    f) A pop-up screen will appear. Take note of the location where Anydvd created the logfile and the logfile's name. Click "ok".
    g) Go to your My Documents folder
    h) You will see a zip file called "Anydvd_Info_titleofmydisc.zip" (or something similar; see step f)
    i) When replying or posting in the Slysoft forums, look for the icon that looks like [IMG] (in other words, look for the paperclip after clicking "quote" or when creating a new thread)
    j) If you don't see that paperclip icon, click the "go advanced" button. You should see that icon now. Click the paperclip.
    k) A small pop-up screen should appear (if it doesn't please ensure your browser is enabled to allow pop-ups from the Slysoft forums)
    l) Click the "Browse" button, and locate and select the .zip file you created.
    m) click "upload"
    n) Close the window. When you submit reply, or submit a new thread, the .zip file will be attached automatically for us to take a look at

    6. What blank media are you using? Specify a) brand name b)type (-R, +R, -RW, +RW, RAM, DL, etc.) c)media code, d) capacity/size, e) batch codes/serial codes (often found printed on the inner plastic hub of the blank disc), and f)country (factory information would be great as well, if possible) where the media was made (look on the physical packaging; do not rely on programs to accurately give you this information).

If you don't know how to obtain media codes, you may find the following programs useful:

    http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com and http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

    7) At what speed are you burning your blank media?

This Sonic driver may be causing conflicts.

    i) Create a backup of your registry
ii) Download imgburn. It's a free program: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
(it's also an excellent program imo)
iii) Go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order. Select "drvmcdb". Click "Remove Selected Filter". Click "ok".
    iv) Reboot

Keep in mind whatever program installed that filter will no longer function properly.

Follow up on Media type and sonic driver

The label and disk say Memorex +R/DL.
Also I uninstalled the sonic driver program which was "Simple Backup".

I appreciate the help... and I'll try clonedvd with new media and the sonic driver gone.

Also should I still use the beta as recommended or the new version that was just released... I assumed the new version.

    Burning Speed Recommendation ?

In the past I have had many many successful burns with the DVD setting at "Fastest". I did try using various slower speeds when my computer started locking during the burn. I had a successful burn on a single layer w/ the setting at 8X yesterday (The Brave One).

What settings are recommended for the different media?

    Terrible

Use Verbatim +R DL (preferably made in Singapore) or MAM-A 8x dvd+R DL only with a 4x write speed

This is what people should be using:

DVD±Rs = Maxell Broadcast Quality Series 8x (not regular junk Maxells you find everywhere), Verbatim 8x & 16x, Taiyo Yuden (not Valueline) 8x
DVD+R DLs = Verbatim made in Singapore (preferably made in Singapore not India), MAM-A 8x

click http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=476 and follow the steps in the order they are listed
