This looks like it's a bad disk but I tried 2 difference disk with the same result. About 62% into the process it gives me this:

I am have tried with both version 6.1.7.4 and 6.1.7.5
Processing error:

G:/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_5 VOB: read error

Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

If reading the media has failed, please clean the surface and try again.

These were both brand new disks, cleaned them anyway still got same results.

Have tried ripping with DVD Shrink, AnyDVD, and CloneDVD 2.9.1.2 with the same results.

The only other thing running was Windows Office Tool Bar.

Here's the log from AnyDVD:

Summary for drive G: (AnyDVD 6.1.7.5)
PLEXTOR DVDRPX-712A 1.09 03/31/0610:00
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (parallel)

Total size: 3879885 sectors (7577 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label: Collier & Co. Hot Pursuit
Media is not CSS protected.
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is region free.

Warning: .bup file location is wrong, .bup processing disabled!
RCE protection not found.
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Found & removed 2 potential bad sector protections!
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!

Anyone have any suggestions?

1. Uninstall Anydvd 6.1.7.5, as I'm not supporting it on this forum. It's meant as a beta version.

2. Provide the Anydvd status screen from 6.1.7.4

3. Post the .ifos. Click http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=330 for instructions

4. Download Nero cd-dvd speed. It's a free program. With Anydvd running in the background ((Use anydvd 6.1.7.4), select the tab labeled "scandisc". Select the appropriate drive letter, and click "start". If Nero cd-dvd speed reports read errors, let us know.

Collier & Co.

Ran Nero CD/DVD Speed and it indicated the disk was 99.9% good.

Here are the vob files.

@ nancy2002,

Welcome to the Forum.

You have provided the answer to your problem.

A Nero CD DVD Speed ScanDisc surface scan should not reveal ANY red or yellow sectors on a correctly manufactured original Commercial DVD Movie disk.

Coaster

Well, actually, if Anydvd can't handle the disc properly, cd-dvd speed will, in fact, report problems (especially with discs involving bad sector protections--such as, some of the Sony/Lionsgate releases), which is why I want the Anydvd status screen from 6.1.7.4 to confirm whether this is a bad original disc.

I backed this one up using ANYDVD and CLONEDVD2 without any problems at all.

As for the Beta, I'll wait until the full release comes out....not in any big hurry because QUALITY always comes first......

Thanks Slysoft Crew !!!!

It's not uncommon for a lot of bad dvds of certain titles to be sold . . .
I know someone who had to exchange 5 discs before going to another store and finally getting a good one.

Media is region free.

This is unusual (although not unheard of) with discs in Region 1. Turn the disc over. What colour is the bottom of the disc?

The AnyDVD summary in #9 posting appears to be unusual.

Usually an original Commercial DVD Movie disk is CSS Protected and contains a Region Code.

I have also tried 2 different copies I got at Best Buy and they both get to 61%

And what version of Anydvd are you using?

Collier & Co.

Yes this is John Schneider and no it's not that good but my husband bought it so I figured I'd back it up.

The color of my disk on the under side is silver.

Thanks for all your help.

You have a bad original disc then. And the poster before you either has a bad original disc--or Anydvd isn't working properly on his or her system (and I suspect that poster is using Anydvd 6.1.7.5 and shouldn't be).

Hi Nancy I am having the same errors that you are having and I have tried
3 different copies from 3 different stores. I am use AnyDvd 6.1.7.4 and
using DvdClone 2.9.1.2 I agree with you all 3 can't be bad disk.
My error is at 61% CRC error when I use AnyDvd with Shrink and when I use DvdClone with AnyDvd it say that VTS_01_5 is bad and other burning software I Have used says that VTS_01_5 is bad too.

Can you please tell us what AnyDvd you used and what DvdClone you used

3 different copies from 3 different stores.

1. Post the .ifos. Click http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=330

2. Post the Anydvd status screen. (ones have been posted before, yes--but I would like to see yours). I would also like to see Wolf's Den's Anydvd status screen from the original disc.

3. It's not unusual for a number of badly pressed original discs to be released.

No css and region free is rather odd, however . . .

@ sheilau,

This is an erroneous assumption.

Just because you have tried three different original Collier & Co. Hot Pursuit Commercial DVD Movie disks and all three have similar problems is not unusual. In this day and age of mass production it is not unusual for a manufacture to keep on spitting out defectively manufactured products. In the Commercial DVD Movie arena it is a well-documented fact that Quality Control is almost non-existent.

I have been in both Blockbuster and Wall Mart and have seen numerous customers standing in line returning the same defective Commercial DVD Movie titles. So having numerous defective copies of particular Commercial DVD Movie title is not an unusual event.

Coaster
