Is it still advisable to uninstall the 32 bit version before installing 1.2.4.4?
 
It never was, unless you want it to install in 'program files' instead of 'program files (x86)'. That's the only reason/benefit

You don't have to but if you want it to install in the ProgramFiles 64bit folders I would. I did this as well unisntall 32bit and removed the folder saving the registration and reinstalled the 64bit into the right folder location and so far no issues.
