Choppy Video (slow frame rate)

Every once in a while I get a DVD that I will convert to a DivX (using the Larger 2gb profile posted on this site). The resulting video is choppy like a slow frame rate. When I flat out copy the DVD, no problems.

I reproduce the problem on other machines.

Some of the DVDs include: Akeelah and the Bee, Chaos, and Blood and Chocolate.

Any advice?
