Windows XP Pro SP2 32-bit

3. If you have virtual drives, disable them while profiling and playing profiles. This includes Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120%, Virtual Clonedrive, Clonecdtray, VSO's EZ Play (comes with Blindwrite), and possibly Anydvd. These are programs that are typically blacklisted by copy protections.
Done.

4. Remove packet writing software from your system (including Roxio's Directcd, Nero's Incd, Roxio/Sonic's DragtoDisc, Drive Letter Access, CyberLink InstantBurn, NTI's Filecd, etc.)
Done. (Never had any packet writing app installed.)

Lite-On DVDRW LH-20A1H; Firmware: LL0A
Lite-On DVDRW SHM-165H6S; Firmware: HS0D

12. What security software (firewall, antivirus) are you using? Please provide version numbers.
AVG 7.5.516

13. Describe your problem, provide full error messages, and please state clearly what you were doing when you received those error messages.

I installed GTA:SA for the first time and played it for a bit with the DVD before quiting and starting up GJ. I made a profile for GTA:SA and GJ read from the DVD for awhile then said profile was completed and ejected the DVD. However, when activating the GTA:SA profile, GJ starts up, then within 10 seconds it stops with the message: "Game Jackal has now been deactivated." The game never starts.

I then edited the profile to NOT start the game automatically, and then activated the profile and started the game manually, but then I get the error message:

No disc inserted.
Please insert the CD/DVD.
(Retry) (Cancel)

14. You should have 3 log files in your Game Jackal directory. The first is called Launcher.log, the second is called Profile.log (do not post the Profiler.log file... notice the "r" at the end) and the third is Proc Monitor.log. Copy and paste the information into your next post.

tried using image mode? if i rememeber right, this game uses the cd/dvd for audio tracks / radio stations within the game..

Thanks for the info!

I removed the old profile and started a new one in Image Mode. The process seemed to be working fine; it took much longer to finish in Image Mode, naturally. Unfortunately, it did not change anything. Game Jackal still quits after a few seconds with: "Game Jackal has now been deactivated" and the game never starts. I repeated the whole process on my other DVD drive, but this did not change the outcome either. Changing to manual-start still gives the same error to insert the game DVD. Here are the logs from the Image Mode attempt:

Try the new v3 beta 4.

I just finished several attempts with the new v3 beta 4 version, and it still does the same thing. GJ deactivates by itself after a few seconds and the game never starts. When using manual start, the game tells me to insert the CD/DVD. I have uninstalled GTA:SA and reinstalled it many times, using both my DVD drives, and not just disabling any virtual drives but completely removing Nero and Alcohol 120% from my system and cleaning the registry of any traces. Can anyone see anything in the logs that I posted above that may help narrow down the problem? Other people seem to be able to play GTA:SA with GJ, so I am at a loss.

(I only purchased GJ recently, and this is the only game that I have tried to use it with. I typically use noCD cracks to avoid wear on the original discs, but I could not find one for GTA:SA v2.00, so I bought GJ thinking that I may never need to use cracks again! I know, I shouldn't have purchased a license before insuring that it worked first. My mistake.)

I think we have that game in our test library. I will take a look.

Hi I'm having an almost identical problem with San Andreas. I hope it's ok to add to this thread rather than start a new one.

1. What version of Game Jackal are you running?
3.0.0.4 beta 4

2. What Operating system are you using? 64 bit? service pack?
Windows XP SP2 (32bit)

Done

4. Remove packet writing software from your system (including Roxio's Directcd, Nero's Incd, Roxio/Sonic's DragtoDisc, Drive Letter Access, CyberLink InstantBurn, NTI's Filecd, etc.)
I don't have any

5. What protection does your game use? Don't know? Find out before posting about issues (and include that information)! Use Protection ID. It's a free program. Use ProtectionID and scan your HD directory where the game is installed (right click the icon on your toolbar, and select "scan files/folders"). Or just scan the main program .exe(s) that you find in the game directory on your hard drive. Provide the protection name and the version number.

6. What is the name of the game you're trying to run?
Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas

7. What is the version of the game?
1.01

8. Is it cd or dvd version?
DVD

9. What region or country is the original disc from?
UK

10. What cpu are you running?
Intel Core2Quad Q6600

11. What optical drives (dvd-rom,cd-rom, burners) are you using to create profiles with? What firmware version is installed on your reader?
SONY DDU1615 Firmware GYN1 (DVD-ROM)
LITE-ON DH20A3H Firmware YP5W (DVD WRITER)

12. What security software (firewall, antivirus) are you using? Please provide version numbers.
Eset Smart Security 3.0.621.0

13. Describe your problem, provide full error messages, and please state clearly what you were doing when you received those error messages.
I installed San Andreas, custom install with audio installed to hard disk. In the default file path. It plays ok normally but when I go to make a profile with GJ, the game won't even start. it goes to launch and then GJ deactivates and says profile complete even though the game didn't even run. The game only starts if i choose to not automatically start game, but even then, the profile creation is not successful. I've tried with both optical drives with the same result.

14. You should have 3 log files in your Game Jackal directory. The first is called Launcher.log, the second is called Profile.log (do not post the Profiler.log file... notice the "r" at the end) and the third is Proc Monitor.log. Copy and paste the information into your next post. Here is one way to do it:

This is a new PC, only a couple weeks old and this game worked absolutely fine on my old pc for 2 years, I don't know why it's decided to not work here. I guess different hardware etc but so far I've no problems with other game i've installed (Sims 2 Bon Voyage, Oblivion, Pro Evolution Soccer 5)

OK... I have tested this game with v3.004 and did discover a few problems. We have worked them out for v3.0.0.5 which should be released in the next few hours or so ;)

Using v3.0.0.5 create a new profile and let me know how you go.

I tried it again with the new v3.0.0.5 - I did a fresh install of GTA:SA v2.00 and created a new profile in GJ, set to "securom disc" and it went through the process of reading from the DVD and finalizing the profile. But when I selected the profile, it did the same thing as before: GJ deactivates in a few seconds and the game never starts.

Here are the logs from this latest attempt in the hope that they will reveal something...

Open the advanced options for the profile (right-click the profile, select "edit profile" and then "advanced options"). Make sure "Disable game application management" is checked.

Thanks, I'll try that right now!

:(

That didn't work either. Same result.

I tried starting the game manually, and this time I didn't get an error asking me for the CD/DVD like before... however, nothing happens at all. The OS doesn't freeze, it just seems to ignore any attempt to start the game.

(The game starts fine with the DVD inserted.)

Did you create the profile with v3.0.0.5? And if so, does it start fine then?

When I downloaded the latest GJ I uninstalled the older version of GJ, rebooted, and uninstalled GTA:SA, rebooted, installed the v3.0.0.5, rebooted, installed GTA:SA, rebooted, and started everything over from the beginning. The profile that is currently not working was freshly created with v3.0.0.5. As I said, the missing DVD error is no longer coming up when I manually start the game (as it was under earlier versions of GJ), but the end result is the same: the game never starts. Only when quitting out of GJ and inserting the DVD can I play.

I got it working second time. First time just failed to load.

Had GTA:SA installed updated to version 1.1

Installed GJ 3.0.0.6

Used the pre-made profile that is included. Found out 2nd though that the deafult installation path is used (c:/program files/.......) where I have mine installed to (e:/games/GTASA). So I changed the exe locations and the working folder location in Advanced and bingo it worked.

Maybe the same for others.
