I have a CD with an electronic copy of my son's biology textbook. I have the hardcopy book, and bought the CD, but I want a backup copy of the CD so that we have a copy at both houses where he lives (separated parents). Seems rather reasonable, and they certainly already have lots of my money. Unfortunately, it seems they have put copy protection of various kinds on the CD. I copied all the files from the CD to HDD no problem, but executing it on the HDD is says "you have an unauthorized copy" etc. etc.

When I tried to use ImgBurn to create a copy, ImgBurn complained of bad CRC's when reading files:

17:05:18 Failed to Read Sectors 800 - 831 - Reason: ID CRC or ECC Error

I thought I'd try CloneCD and see if it can make a copy, and so far no luck.

When it tries to read the CD, if finds tons of bad sectors (bad CRC's). Here is the log, with repeated "bad sector" lines deleted:

I 5:11:42 PM CloneCD Version 5.3.1.4 started!

I can then burn a copy CD no problem, but the CD always appears empty after burning.

How do I do this properly so that my kid can do his biology homework even when he forgets his "real" textbook at school or elsewhere??? Thanks.

CD media is Verbatim (which I understand is the best).

CloneCD should handle SafeDisc 2 protected disks fine.
Try the attached profile.

Another issue may be with your DVD drive. Which model do you have? Try to open your disk on another computer.
