Can we talk about Pop ups on this forum?

You don't get porn pop-ups if you haven't visited bad websites, not necessarily porn.

Actually, you are incorrect. They could have visited a page that was somehow infiltrated and maybe a cross-site scripting vulnerability allowed malware to be placed on the victims computer. Therefore porn pop-ups could occur with the person having never visited a porn, hacking, cracking or any other "bad" website.

You may have fallen prey to malware of some kind.

I almost guarantee it.

I could not possibly agree more with everything you've written. Watchout for Spybot Teatimer though. Lavasoft's Ad-aware is another popular freeware antispyware program.

Avoid bigname toolbars (actually avoid toolbars).

And get to learn how not to accept bad cookies. ex. doubleclick

Yeah well that is rare for the typical user.

Wow, got lots of responses, and I do appreciate it.
#4 I get pop ups from every site I visit, even slysoft. They aren't specifically slysoft popups, just random ones.
Scan your computer with several up to date AVs/spyware/adware/etc scanners. It sounds like you have an infestation happening :p

Also use Spywareblaster to serverely stop drive by downloads.
#5 I'm gonna try the Ad Munch. Also, I've heard lots about Spybot S&D, do any of you use it?
You won't be disappointed by Ad Muncher. Have a look at the chat feature in it for talking with the devs and you'll see me idling in there.

Ugh. I hate that. I have never used it. I just use Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware as on-demand scanners.

Lavasoft's Ad-aware is another popular freeware antispyware program.

Sadly, I may have to go back to Ad-Aware SE Plus. Ad-Aware 2007 Plus results in a BSOD which is something that never happens to me... well, except when I run this program. It's during the scan that it happens. I come back to find my system BSOD'ed. Bleh.

This is very true. I do use Google Toobar but I only have a few features enabled. Everything else is disabled. Your point is very valid, though. I know some people... I'm even related to a few that for some freakin' reason like to install Yahoo's toolbar and Google's. Stupid.

I hate when Nero tries to install those stupid Ask or whatever toolbars. Annoys me to no end (and it just adds to the download size).

I second that and imagine it was done as a paid service to Nero too?

Yeah, no kidding

As it is, Nero tries to take over your system anyway. Nero Scout, Nero Home . . . give me a break!

Most likely. I still haven't heard what was updated in the latest Nero Burning ROM 6 (6.6.1.15c) release. The Ask.com toolbar got added to the installer but I don't know if anything actually got changed other than that.

I have no ideal as I am on Nero 7 to be honest and yes I just may upgrade to.

I already sent in my upgrade stuff.

I've used Nero since... before XP was released and it's never let me down. After too many problems with Adaptec/Roxio I gave up. IMHO, the last good release of Adaptec EZ CD Creator was 3.5 and that is ancient.

Of course different people like different programs. :)

Well for me I see no reason to use programs like that. I can handle a few pop-ups in a week that are harmless anyways.
It does so much more than get rid of popups. It removes ads from videos and webbugs, tracking systems put into websites. It blocks all major ads and much more.

But if you're fine with what you're using then use it :) ;)

Ads don't bug me. :D

Protection . . .

If the last version of Easy CD Creator (Adaptec) you used was 3.5 - that's like saying you do not like Windows when you haven't run it since Windows 95 . . . I've used Adaptec/Roxio/Sonic software all the way since version 3 - currently running 9.1 - 10 is coming out next month - and it runs just fine.

I agree with those supporting the use of:
Firefox as a browser (it is the best, imho), and
Ad-Aware + Spybot + CWShredder and a good virus program to take out and keep out the trash. Keep them updated - and run them weekly to avoid issues.

Please read what I said again. I did not say the last version I used was Adaptec EZ CD Creator 3.5.

What I actually said was:

I used numerous versions after that and had issues along the way but still remained a loyal user. I finally gave up the loyalty because of numerous issues I had. I began to use Nero and haven't had a problem since. I still tried later releases and I have friends that currently use Roxio's software. Sorry, I just don't like it.

I also stated:

Opinions differ. I didn't say my opinion was the correct or only one. If people like Roxio then that's fine by me.

I honestly didn't know CWShredder was still freeware and updated. I thought when Trend Micro acquired InterMute and one of them had bought CWShredder that it was only going to folded into SpySubtract which is shareware w/o having it remain as a standalone application.

#1 I am the only one who uses this computer and I do not visit porn sites.

#2 I do have and love the google toolbar. If deleting would help, I'm willing to do that. Someone said something about advanced features, do you know how to get to it?

#3 I would prefer to use IE over firefox or netscape.
