I currently have a DVD reader and a DVD reader/writer and I use with AnyDVD and CloneDVD with great success. If I replace my DVD reader with a HD DVD reader will I be able to record a standard definition version of those annoying HD-DVDs that are not combo formatted?
Yes you can but if you do that it will just be the same quality as a dvd. So u might as well just rip the dvd.
That's great news. The point is that I want to be able to watch my non-combo HD-DVDs on my HD DVD player and on my normal DVD player (like in my bedroom). If the combo isn't provided it's nice to be able to make a normal DVD copy.
Transitioning always sucks, at least you're still getting the DVD version with many discs. With Blu-ray you always have to buy the DVD version as well. Hopefully, CloneDVD will let you do this in the future. If I were sitting on the jury for someone who had copied a rental dvd, after purchasing the title on HD DVD or a Blu-ray, I would find them innocent.
