Does AnyDVD modify the drive firmware in anyway? Does it permanently make the DVD drive region free? I don't want to cause damage to my drive that can not be reversed, even after reformatting and reinstalling the OS.

Hi :)
Welcome onboard David_DVD.
AnyDVD does not make any hardware changes (this includes f/w).
AnyDVD is software so changes are temporal. Uninstall or switch AnyDVD off & everything reverts to its default staus.:D

AnyDVD emule that the dvd drive to be region free so it can play dvds of any region, but it don't change any setting of it.

I've been using AnyDVD for over Two Years now .
Literally - Thousands of Back-Ups
- All using the same HP 640b(LG) Drive to Read

I would have thought the Drive would have died by now
- on it's own - just from 'wear and tear'/'natural causes'
Nope ; It's still kicking ........

Does AnyDVD cause any damage to the Drive ?
Tested and True : Absolutely Not

as stated .....
Any Change , Effected by AnyDVD
- Returns to the Default - when you Exit AnyDVD
