I tried your link but it's empty as well. I searched and searched but I can't find it anywhere else either

Has anyone tried to use the LG ODD Auto Firmware Update software to see if they can get the GL05 firmware update that way? It's on the disc included with the GBW-H10N. I can't try it on Vista because it only supports XP and below.

Hey roog

Thanks for the tip, I removed the LG drive from my Vista64 HTPC and connected to my XP PC, installed the LG ODD Auto Firmware, rebooted the PC and straight away it found the new firmware. A few button presses later my LG drive now has GL05 installed.

I am testing with one of my all time favourite films, the original STARGATE. Before it used to freeze although it did play perfectly from the HDD.

I will let you know the result.

Thanks for trying it first. I did the same and it worked for me as well. I wish I had looked for the Vista compatible version of the LG ODD software before I did though. I found it after the fact at http://www.lge.com/products/mobile/cdma_swlist_gcsc.jsp. Also, after running you can seach for and find the firmware executable after it is downloaded by the LG ODD software (search for GL05 in this case).

BTW. Stargate is one of my favorites as well!

Hi All, I had just created a new thread and through my various searches came accross this one.

I bought a Sony Blu Ray drive a couple of weeks ago (BWU100A), I have seen some posts around here about it not being the best.

My question is, I just found out for 50.00 more (they always want more!) I can buy an LG GBW-H10N.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.

It's a good drive, it rips much faster than the Sony.

You can read a review of the GBW-H10 at http://www.cdfreaks.com/reviews/LG-GBW-H10N-Super-Multi-Blu-ray-Burner-Review/Introduction.html. You can also find reviews of other drives at this site.

I've been looking around for blank BD-R's, what seems to be the most reliable of the manufactures out there?

So aside from speed, is there any other benefits? I did notice that this one will not burn BD-R Double Layer discs. Which seems about the only advantage the Sony Drive has over the LG.

To find other comments about the Sony BWU100A drive, search for 'Matsushita' or 'Panasonic' on this forum.

Two good sources for BD media are NewEgg.com and Meritline.com. I've been buying rewritable media because the price is almost the same as it is for the write once.

When I do buy a new optical drive, I'm hoping to be able to get a hybrid Blu-Ray burner/HD-DVD reader. The one LG has in the works may be promising, though I'm hoping other manufacturers adopt this route as well. Leaving HD-DVD burning out of these drives seems to make the most sense, as I can't see any possible advantage HD-DVD has in the computer market. To say nothing of the lack of blank HD-DVD media so far.

This zip file is empty just like the one from the LG d/l site.

I would advise NOT buying this drive if you intend using it with Vista at least the 64 bit version.

I have been in contact with LG for over a month about this corrupt zip file and it seems they are totally incapable of correcting the problem.

I dowloaded the files and put them here.

and

I got 0 bytes at start but after a few tries with different methods I got them.
Hope it works.

Peace!
