Hello,

I wanted to copy with clonebd V1.1.02 only the movie from Ben hur 2016, everyhting seem to work normaly but at the end i had not a 25 gb BR but only 10 Gb.

I let active the vce (amd app); look as clonebd done rip,i wanted to have the movie on the BR

Strange! But inbterresting i can have 2 movie on a 1 BR in the future (y)

The biggest problem after i got a black screen, when i stop the blu ray player and resume today.

I had this output

Current profile: BD-R
Media is a Blu-ray disc.

Total size: 5295521 sectors (10342 MBytes)
Video Blu-ray label: Ben_Hur
Media is not AACS protected.
Blu-ray disc is region free!

Regards

Not possible. That looks very much like an extremely limited anydvd output and NOT like an output from CloneBD. So please provide a full anydvd logfile & CloneBD logfile and tell us EXACTLY what you're doing. Full copy, partial copy,... what source you're using. Cause that looks like a preprocessed unprotected backup. There's no telling what has been done to it to make it violate BD specifications and cause problems for CloneBD.

Hello Ch3vron,

I done actually the jon again, i post the logs from clonebd

You didn't post any logs. All you posted was

Current profile: BD-R
Media is a Blu-ray disc.

Total size: 5295521 sectors (10342 MBytes)
Video Blu-ray label: Ben_Hur
Media is not AACS protected.
Blu-ray disc is region free!

which is a very limited text of what's available in the anydvd status window. The status window text is not a logfile.

No anydvd nor cloneBD logfile is attached to either of your posts. So again, logfiles please.

An Anydvd logfile of your SOURCE and the CloneBD logfile of the CLBD output (hold the ALT key on the final screen and 2 new buttons will appear)

Ch3vron,

I told, i will done the job again and send the logs, i have not the log from before otherwise i posted all ready.
The anydvd logs was only to let you see the output size.

I use hardware VCE AMD APP in maximum quality for the encoding

SO job done 10 GB in output with debugger logs and ctxdlog
00:00:00.002 | [Notice] Total output size (without overhead): 23,89 GB (23887867314)
and finaly
00:48:46.712 | [Notice] Total size of generated files: 10844231433 bytes

Hope this will help to unterstand.

Ok, ya did half of it right. AnyDVD logfile of the SOURCE please!

The anydvd logs was only to let you see the output size.

That wasn't a logfile, that was a very limited copy/paste of the anydvd status window output. An anydvd logfile ends with .ziplog, so again.

Tell us EXACLY what you're doing, as asked a few times now.

Loading disc directly, loading iso, full disc copy, partial copy, are you removing audio/subtitles, video clips...

without this information the developers cannot help you. as you're not giving them a lot of info (or the tools they need) to work with.

There is no anydvd log because its a iso file

I copy the main movie in french only with sub in french

yous ask me the logs! Everything is in this log open the transcoder.txt please

and finaly the iso that clonebd make

00:48:46.712 | [Notice] Total size of generated files: 10844231433 bytes <= what clearly its a problem !!!

There's no additionnal log to provide.

Now can someone tell me why i have 10 gb output at the end ? is it because i use VCE amd app in maximum quality? If Yes! there is a bug!!

There is no anydvd log because its a iso file

Mount the iso in a virtual drive, rightclick anydvd, create logfile > done. There's your logfile. So again, anydvd logfile please of your source. No logfile = we can't help you. There's a chance hw encoding is partially responsible yes since it's still a highly experimental version. There's an easy way to find out if hw acc is the problem. Disable it, try the job again. Same output size? Then hw acc is not the issue here and something else is. Which is why we need that ANYDVD LOGFILE please.

so again

Tell us EXACLY what you're doing, as asked a few times now.

Loading disc directly, loading iso, full disc copy, partial copy, are you removing audio/subtitles, video clips...

So i done this morning again the test without the vce activate and in fast speed otherwise is catastrophic encoding its 1 images/sec in maximum and 7 images /sec in intermediaire encoding, if i use speed ts 44 images /sec

When the job its done i have the right size.

01:00:03.896 | [Notice] Total size of generated files: 23718953641 bytes

01:05:56.958 | [Notice] Remove files...
01:05:57.531 | [Notice] DONE.

Its a vce issue when its active i have only 10 Gb, hope you can fix this because vce its very usefull specially for the quality and speed encoding, you have all logs

And definitly not a anydvd issue!

Thank you for that input - I can confirm, the AMD acceleration is not processing with the correct bitrate. Needs to be fixed.

Any chance there was a similar issue found with CUDA? Note: A report was filed directly with Elby back in November.

I've done multiple CUDA builds so far, no such issues yet.

No intent to sidetrack this thread but I definitely ran into an issue with over-compression and poor size estimation when I made use of CUDA on a particular movie release; Not Ben Hur. Another piece of software had no issues producing properly sized output. I promptly notified Elby providing logs and relevant information. Was merely hoping Pete might have some insight/information.

Yesterday, I did some tests in this direction.
The AMD encoder, indeed, does not take the provided average bitrate too seriously for some reason.
But using CUDA, I usually hit the bulls eye, with less than a tenth percent deviation from the given bit rate.

It does depend on the source, though. With some input, CUDA didn't manage the requested bit rate (12mbit/s in that case), probably because the input didn't come with that much entropy to begin with (it's a bit like asking winzip to make your files double in size, it just can't).
With Blu-ray discs, it is very common, that they have a lot of padding in the streams, just to force them to a given size.

Switching from VBR (variable bitrate) to CBR (constant bitrate) made both encoders (AMD and nVidia) result in the exact requested bit rate, but that is no surprise, as CBR will force the encoder to use padding, whenever there is not enough meat available.
But CBR also produces slightly worse quality in most situations (VBR allows the VBV buffer to run low in "quiet" scenes, the space which then can be used for short bit rate peaks, when required - CBR per definition does not allow such peaks).

Other than that, we don't have overly much influence on how these encoders operate.

The AMD encoder really does a very poor job at keeping the requested bit rate. It doesn't ignore the provided value, but it stays below at 50 to 70 % of it.
We will play with the remaining parameters a bit, but there really aren't that many buttons and knobs left to play with.

Another piece of software had no issues producing properly sized output.
What "other piece of software" are you referring to?
And was that using CUDA? Possibly CBR?

Hello,

Maybe its a good idea to open a pint in amd that they code gently !!

If nobody tell nothing they never change things!

I have a card with 8 gb ram i'm Very interrested to use the VCE modus as my CPU.

your VCE will NEVER be the cpu, the CPU is only 1 thing and that's the main computing unit on the motherboard. The graphics card is is called the GPU ;)

Hi Ch3vron that's why i told i prefer to use the vce (amd app,who use the gpu) and not use my cpu who's is effectiv not a gpu.

But i maintain to open a ticket to amd will be good i don't unterstand why users can't use properly the GFX possibilities. :)

From what i've been told the API is on par with intel's. a complete mess compared to nvidia's CUDA. Same as with intel. Then there's the "driver support" issue like with CUDA. If the GPU is too old it will either not be supported or run slower than software encoding
