    Pioneer BDR-XD07T CF BDR-XD07TUHD, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Writer, Libre-Drive Friendly with firmware 1-04

Only Available on Redfox at Present

Pioneer BDR-XD07T CF BDR-XS0DTUHD, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Writer, Libre-Drive Friendly with firmware 1-04. Now only £129.99 minus 5% = £123.49, plus postage for all Redfox forum members.

The performance of the BDR-XD07T Cross-Flashed to BDR-XD07TUHD is of a very high standard, and the quality of the Pioneer drive is outstanding. It is excellent at burning and reading discs. This drive is a top loader type drive and is extremely quiet in operation. The drive has read every 4K disc I have tested, all with no problems. The drive does not have the AACS 2.0 Crypto Chip. Apart from that, it has the same functions as a Pioneer BDR-XD07TUHD and will read and back up 4K UHD discs. This does not make a difference as most people use VLC for unofficial playback, as Cyberlink PowerDVD HD has very stringent criteria relating to hardware, and VLC is more straightforward.

When you insert a disc in the Pioneer drive, it reads the 4k disc within 2 to 3 seconds, with none of these loud seeking noises for 10 to 15 seconds that you get with the Hitachi or ASUS desktop drives. You can walk away now and know when that when you come back that the disc will be completed successfully, and there will be no read errors.

    Pioneer BDR-212EBK Cross-Flashed to BDR-S12UHT with firmware 1-02, fitted to a Vantec DX2, model number NST-540S3-BK. Vantec's newest Model.

Vantec DX NST-540S3-BK USB 3.0 5.25" External Enclosure. Fitted with Pioneer 5.25" BDR-212EBK Cross-Flashed to BDR-S12UHT now £138.99 minus 5% = £132.05 plus postage for all Redfox forum members.

Things have moved on in the world of 4K optical drives. The most significant change is that now the Pioneer drives can read 4K Blu-rays. Pioneer has always been a higher quality-build when it comes to optical drives.

The main benefit of Cross-Flashing this drive is that it is cheaper than the Pioneer Flagship model BDR-S12UHT and there is a significant saving to the end customer.
The performance of the BDR-212EBK is of a very high standard and the quality of the Pioneer drive is outstanding. It is excellent at burning and reading discs. The BDR-212EBK Cross-Flash performs extremely well and reads every 4K disc that I have tested the drive with.

The BDR-212EBK when Cross-Flashed has the exact same performance as the BDR-S12UHT, except the BDR-212EBK does not have the AACS 2.0 Crypto Chip. This does not really make a difference as most people use VLC for unofficial playback as CyberLink PowerDVD HD has very stringent criteria relating to hardware and VLC is more straightforward. Apart from the AACS 2.0 Crypto IC being omitted the BDR-212EBK is identical in every way.

If you are going to be using an external enclosure, I would recommend you partner this drive with the new Vantec DX2 5.25" enclosure.

The new Vantec DX2 model now uses a new updated communications interface PCB. The newly designed PCB incorporates the JMS578 USB 3.1 Gen1 to SATA 6Gb/s bridge controller. It provides a low-power and high-performance solution for optical disc drives. The JMS578 supports a higher data transmission rate and lower power consumption than its predecessors. The Pioneer BDR-212EBK Cross-Flashed to BDR-S12UHT fitted to a DX2 enclosure is a brilliant combination with its sleek and stylish design. Performance is of a very high standard and the quality of the Pioneer drive combined with the newly designed DX2 is a clear winner.

When you insert a disc in the Pioneer drive it reads the 4k disc within 2 to 3 seconds, with none of these loud seeking noises for 10 to 15 seconds that you get with the Hitachi or ASUS desktop drives. You can walk away now and know when you come back that the disc will be completed successfully and there will be no read errors.

This optical disc drive technology and expertise accumulated over many years are fundamental to the performance and quality of current Pioneer Blu-ray drives. Pioneer uses in-house development and manufacture for everything from optical pickups through to disc transport mechanisms, control circuitry for these, and even the chassis. This condenses their expertise in optical disc technology going back to the era of the LaserDisc, enabling stable read and write operations. Pioneer Blu-ray drives are renowned for their high writing quality and are used for the storage of historical documents such as those in libraries and museums, examination and treatment data in medical institutions, academic content and research data in educational institutions, and master data at broadcasters. The drives are also used for the storage of confidential documents, statistical data, and other data in government offices.

In previous drives, when a read error occurred because of problems such as scratches or fingerprints on music CDs, this section with the error was interpolated and the sound approximated from this. Pioneer Blu-ray drives include PureRead technology, a unique technology for accurately reading data from music CDs. This technology automatically determines the state of discs that have scratches and makes adjustments accordingly to use an optimal read method, thus providing a reading of music CDs that is as close as possible to the original.

The performance of the Pioneer BDR-S12UHT is of a very high standard and the quality of the Pioneer drive is outstanding. It is excellent at burning and reading discs. This drive is extremely quiet in operation. The drive has read every 4K disc that I have tested, all with no problems. Please see the picture with the long list of BD100 3-layer discs that the drive read without a glitch and no retry or read errors!

The BDR-S12UHT has longer product life with improved drive software. The drive has been enhanced and designed to reduce the deterioration of the reading performance of discs due to dust and cigarette smoke with high dustproof design performance and improved drive software. With this, S12UHT has a prolonged life of about twice of conventional models. When you now insert a disc in the Pioneer drive it reads the 4k disc within 2 to 3 seconds, none of these loud seeking noises for 10 to 15 seconds that you get with the Hitachi or ASUS desktop drives it just reads the disc immediately. I can walk away and know when I come back that the disc will be completed successfully and there will be no read errors.

The Pioneer BDR-S12UHT fitted to a DX2 enclosure is a brilliant combination with its sleek and stylish design. Performance is of a very high standard and the quality of the Pioneer drive combined with the newly designed DX2 is a clear winner.

    - Question about EU customs duties, when shipping to the EU?
Northern Ireland is part of the UK.
Is the shipment with DDP Incoterms, so the customs duties are paid on my behalf?
Is the price here including the EU customs duties?

    - Question about Pioneer Drive only 5.25": BDR-S12XLT or BDR-212EBK?
    What is the drive difference?
It is the same main features.

    - Question about plus postage
How much are the postage costs to Germany?

If you order through eBay they charge customs fees through the global shipping program. I believe this is because eBay posts the parcels from the global warehouse in the United Kingdom.

If you purchase from us and we post from Northern Ireland , there will be no customs fees. All Pioneer drives have a full 12 months warranty. No need to worry about registration of the warranty as we take care of this for you.

If you order through eBay and do not register with the global shipping program then we can post and avoid import charges.

Germany would be our largest customer base. I am sure there is German customers on this forum who have purchased directly of UHD Friendly Drives previously and they would vouch for our products, service and communication.

If you would like a quotation please contact us directly by email.

IMPO, with the lack of 5:25 drive bays in cases today, this is my top pick. USB, and its nice and slim, everyone has their own tastes and needs but I am also a Pioneer type of guy so I may be partial.

Purchasing directly from Northern Ireland is w/o customs into the EU based on the Northern Ireland protocol that gives it still EU non-customs status while the rest of the UK after the Brexit falls under non-EU and duties apply.

    @Asmcom ,

the question was: What is the difference between S12XLT and 212EBK - if there is any.

The BDR-212EBK has a matt bezel, whereas the BDR-S12XLT and the BDR-S12UHT have gloss front bezels.

The laser pickup is identical in the BDR-S12UHT, BDR-S12XLT & BDR-212EBK.

The laser pickup in the BDR-212DBK is of lower quality and failed to read some 3-layer discs. This never happened with the XLT. UHT or EBK models.

I tested the EBK, XLT, and UHT with scratched discs and they all performed incredibly well.

    BDR-S12UHT

The BDR-212EBK, BDR-S12XLT do not have the AACS Crypto IC. This in my view does not factor as AnyDVDHD HD, MakeMKV, DVDfab, DeUhd and Leawo take care of this problem.

Is it hard to get good media to burn on these drives?

    Do you mean raw discs?
It appears to be the case, some posted that some discs are bad for burning.
Coop will know more about that.

I was just wondering because Taiyo Yuden is out of business, so maybe there was a particular brand that was better than others.

The Pioneer drives are the best burners out there. LG / ASUS drives are lousy. The biggest challenge is to have good burns with multiple-layer BD-R discs since the layer break is hard to get managed by the drives especially if you use lower quality discs. The best quality seems to come from Verbatim and their 50Gb discs made in Japan with the MID MEI-T02-001. Still- you need to burn these discs as slooooooow as possible.

25GB discs are usually no problem as those are single layer discs.

    @DeepSpace ,

Tayo Yuden discs were the clearly best out there. TY stopped manufacturing discs in 2015.
