is anyDVD for copying video DVDs and CloneDVD for copying data DVDs and unprotected video DVDs?

    (Just for clarification thank you!)

AnyDVD is needed to backup commercial DVD's. It removes copy protection schemes and can be utilized as a ripper to your HD. CloneDVD can backup any DVD that is unprotected. This is where AnyDVD comes in play. It can also compress video to fit a single layer disc. And CloneDVD can remove any title sets you wish not to have. Backing up data CD/DVD would be best achieved by using CloneCD.

    Hope this helps...:D

Thank you for the quick reply..

it is just that I used anyDVD and right licked on the icon and there was a rip to hard drive (or something like that) option. therfore do I really need cloneDVD if anyDVD will remove the protection and rip it therfore being able to rip both protected and non-protected DVDs? wheres cloneDVD will only rip a non-protected DVD?

The AnyDVD ripper will copy the whole disk to your hard drive.

CloneDVD allows you to pick while parts of the DVD to copy, and also allows you to compress moves so they will fit on a single layer disk.
