Beta releases are normally stable and reliable although sometimes it may take more than one release for an issue to be resolved. And, yes, discussion of the beta releases is done in these forums.

Within software you usually have 3 main classes of releases.

1. Alpha: highly experimental, often high instability, mostly used for internal testing, high chance of (multiple) bugs
2. Beta: main internal testing done, most bugs eliminated, main public testing
3. Release: beta testing completed, public release and recommended for general use

With AnyDVD beta's are usually just as stable as a normal release version. However they are often said to be needed by the developer staff to address certain decryption issues or new protections. The last part "new protections" in lots of cases applies to DVDs as support for new DVD protections and decryption is first and foremost done by AnyDVD itself and not the OPD. The OPD only speeds things up DVDs, in blu-ray the OPD does take a bulk of the load off anydvd and in specific to playlist info.

As to the discussion part, yes, in the specific forum sections. The version stickies used to be open to discuss them, but people started using them for "problem posting and diagnosing" instead of creating there own topics which is what's recommended for proper assistance.

1. I have only been using AnyDVD HD on Blu-Rays so far. 2. What does OPD mean? U can't search for this here because it's only 3 chars.

2. OPD = Online Protection Database, where anydvd gets the bulk of it's decryption information when it comes to playlist information (screenpass / playlist obfuscation protected discs)
