Anydvd and ripped backups question

So I'm building a HTPC and I know Anydvd stops cinavia on backups played though a dvd player, but how does it work for ripped movies? Does simply running it while I play it on a software player work? Or do I need a plugin for the player?

Yes, just having AnyDVD running in the background will prevent PC software players from detecting Cinavia during playback.
The AnyDVD Fox tray icon will turn purple if it is working correctly.
 
Thank you! Could you recommend any good free or inexpensive players for a HTPC?
