anydvd and dvd-vr/+vr

The manual states that the unit records in DVD+VR automatically.

Oh. Well, then you never have to worry, since dvd+vr doesn't suffer from the same compatibility issues as dvd-vr. The dvd+vr format can play on most players.

This should probably be split from the AnyDVD thread since it has nothing to do with AnyDVD.

Why would there be all that protection from a DVD recorder?

I doubt, by the way, this issue has anything to do with protection at all. I strongly suspect this issue has everything to do the dvd-vr format, which is not dvd-video compliant--and won't play in most dvd-video players.

Thanks for the time you guys spent on this. I,ve been bucking the same issue with a Phillips model DVCR 1390, now I can get on with my life.

That's funny, my PHILIPS DVD Recorder makes a completely protection-free disc as well...

The problem has nothing to do with protection, and it's possible you may have set the recording as dvd-video (if your recorder supports it) instead of the dvd-vr format, which is not compatible with most dvd players. dvd+vr, conversely, is compatible with most dvd players.

This is actually the norm, and not protection. Rather it is an artifact of the DVD-VR recording process, either when the DVD is not finalized (DVD+RW) or after finalization (DVD+R).

My LiteOn LVW-5001 recorder produces discs with similar issues. The good ISO software ISOBuster actually had a revision to work around this issue. Before the fix, I wold get read errors at the end of the track - something about sectors not being found. After ISO Buster was updated, I could copy these discs without an issue. Before that, I could still copy them, but would have to instruct ISOBuster to ignore the errors, or replace those sectors with empty information.
