Add 16:9 DivX profile for ARCHOS Generation 4

I noticed a number of requests for native support for the ARCHOS Generation 4 devices (504, 604, 704, etc.) with no replies nor updates. Given the last update for CloneDVDmobile is quite old (12/27/2006), has development stagnated? Consider this yet another ping for support.

I have tested every profile trying to find one that works "very well" with the ARCHOS 604wifi with no luck.

The device supports virtually any resolution and bitrate upto DVD quality, in 16:9 widescreen format. It seems the "Generic DivX" is the best option. Unfortunately, the "Generic Divx" profile contains only 4:3 aspect ratio high-resolution target sizes.

All other profiles having native widescreen aspect ratios do not enable both high resolution and high bitrates.

I really need something like 640 by 360 at 2 Msps target, so I can have DivX conversions that play well on both normal computers or through the 604 WiFi connection.

Please add an "ARCHOS Generation 4" profile or update "Generic DivX" profile with the ability to do high resolution high bitrate 16:9 generic DivX.

I guess I never should have bought this software before selecting the hardware, but I really wanted to stay with the SlySoft series as I often use CloneDVD.

If you want widescreen support, try using the Creative ZEN Vision W profile.

Created the profile myself.

How embarassing to ask SlySoft to add support for something so easily done myself. I falsely assumed the profiles where compiled into the executable. Since no Slysoft person replied in any other member's posts related to ARCHOS, I never discovered the option that was available.

CloneDVDmobile actually contains the profiles in plaintext in a simple external configuration file, "Devices.ini", in the CloneDVDmobile install directory.

As Matt metioned, "Zen Vision W" is the closest. Unfortunately, it did not offer the resolutions I was looking for, since the ARCHOS supports full DVD resolution playback on an external TV.

After further reading of other non-ARCHOS related posts, I discovered I could create my own profile. I simply added the following to my "Devices.ini" file. It is a merge of the appropriate keys from "Generic DivX" and "Zen Vision W" with suggested resolutions for Generic DivX Widescreen. For ARCHOS Generation 4 devices, the only really useful resolutions are "Res2=360x272" and "ResAna2=480x272" for native LCD resolution, or "AllowNativeTVResolution=1" for full DVD resolution.

Since I had also bought the ARCHOS PodCasts plug-in, enabling H264/AAC playback, I will try to create another profile using options from [PlayStation Portable (AVC/H264, Firmware Version >= 2.6)] profile and post it if it works. Unfortunately, a number of its option lines do not have an intuitively obvious purpose.

I have a new request for SlySoft if they are listening. "Please provide detailed documentation of the Devices.ini options".

I invite suggestions for improvements to the MPEG4 profile, to create a H264/AAC profile, or provide links to good option documentation.

H264/AAC on ARCHOS 604wifi

I was able to do the devices.ini for H264/AAC format. Here it is:

@ lwesker

error in line (extra space):

lavcopts=aglobal=1:vglobal=1:vcodec=h264:coder=1:a codec=aac

delete space after the "a" in "acodec=acc"

Thanks Lawrence for the provile for H264 (and your prior one as well, I have put them both in my device.ini) and thanks dav88 for the correction on the extra space. I am trying the H264 profile right now an a rip and really hoping it resolves my bad audio sync problem. I had a 5 minute video where the sound was so badly off, the music ended 2 minutes before the video did, and the video continued to play with no sound! Yikes.

I was able to do the devices.ini for H264/AAC format. Here it is:

Hi,

Thanks for the profile but I noticed there was no audio bit rate setting for this profile. Do you know if the AAC codec honors the ABRate setting for H264 profiles?

If you add ABRate=128 to the devices ini it will be 128kbps other wise it is appears to be 64kbps.

p.s. Every time I post this devices.ini it adds a space so remember to delete space after the "a" in "acodec=acc"

you can also remove and rename profiles from devices.ini
i removed profiles for all of the phones im never going to own :agree:
i also renamed some to be able to find them easier.

is there a way to be able to have more than one output filetype? (like being able to choose divx, mp4, or avi in the divx options?)
i can do it so far just by adding the line "FileType2=divx" underneath "FileType=avi", but then again im not a programmer, so...

Hey Iwesker! I find it hard to find others with the new Archos's. Was wondering if I could pick your brain. I have a 704. Do you know what the highest bitrate I can set CloneDVDmobile to do with DIVX and H264 (with the archos's being capable of handling)? You have a problem with the time line on the bottom, being completely eracting as far as showing the time of the movie, when playing a VOB file? You have problems with the system icon not showing you the proper hard drive space being used (my video folder alone is 39 gig, but the system setting says only 10 gig of the harddrive has been filled)? Do you know why, if you can watch VOB and DIVX files in 720x480, why we can't record TV in a resolution higher than 640x362 (or something along that line)? Thanks -- just nice to be able to talk to another Archos owner.
