Though Microsoft says Vista's sales are strong, numbers from some analysts
tell a different story.
About 40 million copies of Vista sold within its first 100 days, versus 20
million for Windows XP, Kutz said. But those numbers are skewed by the much
greater number of PCs on the market in 2006 than in 2001.
According to NPD, for the first seven months of 2007, total dollar volume
from sales of the boxed version of Vista was 41.5 percent below that of
Windows XP during its first seven months. The number of copies of Vista sold
in that same period was 59.7 percent below sales of XP, said NPD.
