Out of 8 episodes of series Wednesday, e06 is not available in 1080p. Ok, no biggie Ill settle for one episode in 720p. It downloads fine BUT... bit rate is... wait for it... wait... 435kbps! Yes, you read it right. Fourhundredandthirtyfive. WTH? Other 7 episodes no problem. 1080p, from 3400kbps up to 5300kbps (I hate Netflix and their inconsistency with bitrates, I really do, lol).

So, can anyone else check on their end if its just me or this is provider wise? Cheers!

I get same result. I agree with your dislike of Netflix.

Wednesday.jpg It's one episode in 720p, Episode 6, and the sound is 640kbps. One episode out of 20,000 LOL.

We can only download what Netflix provides.;) Uncheck DESCRIPTIVE AUDIO AND YOU WILL GET 640KBPS.

Resolution aint the problem. The bitrate is. It is absurd, @450kbps. Ill fire up Shield and browser, and check S01E06. If its a 450kbps blockfest bloodbath, then yeah something is wrong with NF, for sure. But... if its not? Cheers!

EDIT: Ok, done. It is not a 450kbps blockfest bloodbath. It is usual Netflix (pseudo HD, lol). But, it definitely is not 450kbps. BTW, we are talking video bitrate here, we are on the same page, right?? Hehe

That is a NF issue not an AS issue. You know that.

C-c-coo, c-c-cool-cool-cool, c-c-cool. But, Im not getting the same result on the same computer via browser. I get a regular NF HD stream. I am confused. lol.

The bitrate is just fine on every episode in that series except Episode 6. I think its fine.

RedFox, with all due respect, if AS is only pulling 435 video bitrate and at 720 whilst it plays on Netflix normally at 1080 at a higher bitrate, isn’t that an AS issue?

No, with all due respect. 720p will always have a lower bitrate than 1080p. There's no right answer to this question. Most folks use quality-based variable bitrate (VBR) these days instead of constant bitrate ( CBR) because some scenes -- high action require more bitrate than others

This is not unusual for Netflix...even when you have all the same resolutions, some episodes end up considerably smaller.
I would assume their encoding process is automated, so it could be a flaw in their software....regardless...Netflix rarely cares
about quality. Netflix mostly cares about taking your money.

Happy Thanksgiving Mr. RedFox1 and everyone on the Anystream Forum.

I downloaded some episodes and had a look at the logs.
For some reason Netflix provides for episode 6 only the following (according to logging)
    Code:
    00:03:48.346 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (770019623): 480x270, bitrate 60000
    00:03:48.346 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (770020174): 608x342, bitrate 80000
    00:03:48.346 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (770020379): 768x432, bitrate 100000
    00:03:48.346 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (770020654): 768x432, bitrate 169000
    00:03:48.346 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (770021404): 960x540, bitrate 296000
    00:03:48.346 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (770022491): 1280x720, bitrate 451000
Other episodes give the higher bitrate from 720p plus both of 1080p like this (and even a very low one):
    Code:
    00:43:26.152 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (708438415): 480x270, bitrate 84000
    00:43:26.152 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (708440675): 608x342, bitrate 105000
    00:43:26.152 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (708440954): 768x432, bitrate 156000
    00:43:26.152 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (708439715): 768x432, bitrate 233000
    00:43:26.152 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (710387472): 960x540, bitrate 433000
    00:43:26.152 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (710390789): 1280x720, bitrate 662000
    00:43:26.152 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (710388993): 1280x720, bitrate 1021000
    00:43:26.152 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (711594575): 1920x1080, bitrate 1892000
    00:43:26.152 - [Debug] [playlist:netflix] Adding video track (711608377): 1920x1080, bitrate 3581000

I've never figured out their logic...I'm assuming if no human is involved, it's a software flaw. Quality control
would dictate they re-encode the offending episode....never happens.

A good quality 1080p bitrate for me would range around 8-10K from a streaming service. They aren't even coming close.
Don't mind me though...I prefer Blu-Ray REMUX's for most series. I just hate having to identify each episode after ripping them.

    Just a random example...

    wZDykXJ.jpg

Episodes range from just under a gb to close to 2 gb's. All are close to the same length.

One possibility that always enters my mind...Netflix uses multiple DRM's. Could this be affecting quality.

but the entire episode is a blockfest galore. as in, unwatchable. bitrate is as if the resolution was 128*240 lol. i know NF is sheeeeit, i know they use pseudo trickery, i know they have bitrate fluctuate between episodes within a single season, i know ill get one 50min episode with 5000kbps and the very next one with a 2000kbps bitrate. my point was that 450kbps is not normal, even for a sheeeit provider such as netflix. lol. i have never seen this, across all six providers, HD, SD, 1080, 720, 540 or 480p. havent tried lower than 480p because, guess what... bitrate would probably be 450kbps, but at 360p that wouldnt be a problem, while at 720p... well.. i am also thinking NF is doing something with DRM. windows webrowser and android app pulls a stream that is definitely not a 450kbps one. thats all. peace out. cheers!

thats netflix for ya, yup. i try avoiding netflix, but now i go for 1080p, check the bitrates per episode, try finding a median bitrate then reencoding to x265. low bitrate episodes get a bump, high bitrate episodes the other way around. in the end i get all episodes with same-ish bitrate, and since it is x265 it all works out just fine. except banding which is still a mystery to me, but higher bitrates do help eleviate some of the banding issues, but not entirely. anyway...

I understand you being upset....give it a few days and the 1080p may appear....it does happen.

Just for your info...here's the BluRay file sizes for the above episodes...

    tpxPsb0.jpg

Not a lot of fluctuation...except the last episode which may have been longer...
