Theres already a CUDA enabled encoder called Badaboom. I think its still in beta. I tried it months ago when I was experimenting making blu-rays and hddvds out of upscaled dvd content.

I was under the impression that h.264/vc-1 doesn't allow for transcoding like mpeg2 does. I'm sure everyone would love software that could shrink HD content without going through the whole decoding/re-encoding process.

Redbox already has blu-rays in some locations like wal-marts. I know because I've rented them in the past. Their website does not show the blu-ray titles but you can find them in the machines. If you get the free rental code on mondays you can even get one free.

I have two single layer blu-rays, T2 and Stargate. Both are 1080p mpeg2 codec disks. Since the studios (or at least lionsgate/studio canal) did encode movies this way I was wondering if that would be a good target format for re-encodes. Is it even possible to re-encode a 50gb avc or vc-1 movie...

sometimes I see an issue if use https, not sure if its the same thing you are seeing.

You could always look online for whats worked for others with the same burner as you. Some manufacturers even have lists of recommended media for their drives.

Its happened to me before. after a certain amount of hardware changes, xp wants to be reactivated. The nature of VCD makes it appear as a hardware change so if you're close to the limit, you may get hit with activation when you install it.

Pardon my cluelessness but couldnt you just rename the folder into something invisible to the udf filesystem? or just rename everything in the aacs folder to random characters and alter the file sizes to zero? They can't find what they can't see.
