Just a thought but have you tried playing the original disc ? In the UK, this disk was recalled as it had authoring problems which caused skipping on playback. I know this because HMV contacted me last week and I had to go back to the store and get a replacement disc.

I saw this effect as well. However, if you leave it going for a minute or so, the screen comes up telling you that you may need a firmware upgrade. If you click 'Continue', it goes to the menu and all is fine. TiVo.
