Hi. Maybe you will be able to help me. I have crossflashed Asus BC-12D2HT with ASUS BW-16D1HT fw and have a problem to go back. I want orginal firmware but UHD friendly. The drive orginally came with 3.11fw.

When i try to flash orginal fw using asus flasher i am receiving error 5. I can go up and down with ASUS BW-16D1HT fw (even to 3.00) but cant go back to Asus BC-12D2HT fw.

I am thinking of dumping the crossflashed firmware, extract the laser calibration and encryption key data and modify clean Asus BC-12D2HT fw and flash using dosflash. Is dosflash have similiar limitation as asus flasher?? Or it will flash whatever you give to it?? Would you be able to help me prepare such a fw??

If this method is not possible will the drive work properly on ASUS BW-16D1HT fw??

Will be grateful for any help.

You can't flash with dosflash. Not sure what an error 5 means but make sure you don't have any disc in the drive and make sure anydvd is closed completely before trying to flash. Also make sure you're using the latest version of the flashing tool.

Why i cant use dosflash?? Even if I downgrade to 3.00??

Because the later firmware that was previously on there disabled it. I'm not sure downgrading enables it, either.

You most definitely have a lot to lose. Dosflash can brick the drive. But to each their own.

You can't. It's when you try to write it that will brick it.

So, I have succesfully flashed back Asus 12D2HT firmware using dosflash. I have found clean 3.00 firmware for it and modified using data extracted by eeprom data mover from my dump of BW-16D1HT crossflashed firmware.
I have used very old mediacenter pc SATA IDE mode (only available on it - no ahci there) and Win8PE booted from usb. Used Dosflash 2.0. First I downgraded BW-16D1HT 3.10 to 3.02, then to 3.00 using modified asus flasher. Booted winpe and started dosflash. It found drive no problem. Readed dump no problem also, zero errors. Then i modified clean 3.00 BC-12D2HT firmware using my dump and eeprom data mover and flashed it. Flashing went without any problems. So basically theory about permanent dosflash disabling after touch of 3.10 FW can be put between the shelves.

After reboot, drive appeared back as Asus BC-12D2HT 3.00 unmodded.

So basically i purchased drive BC-12D2HT 3.11 then crossflashed to BW-16D1HT 3.10, downgraded to 3.02 and then 3.00 and converted back to BC-12D2HT 3.0 using data from the dump. And at the end flashed 3.01MK to make it uhd friendly. A bit to much hassle, but i did not know there is 3.11 mk firmware for it when i was crossflashing. I will let you know tomorrow if everything is working as supposed to. For now i only have cdrw and normal cd to test. Tomorrow i will organise some bluray 4k discs.

Pictures attached. Also pack of all required files if someone had the same problem of course without my dumps and created fw.

That's good that it worked. dosflash if you know what you're doing is fine assuming you can downgrade low enough to restore the interface for it. It's when people flash things with it when they don't know what they're doing that causes problems. Looks like you followed directions quite well. Nice job!

And as I said to you on the other forum, if you had of done some searching/reading beforehand, you could have started with your purchased BC-12D2HT drive on 3.11 then directly flashed to BC-12D2HT 3.11-MK and be done!

Anyway, at least you got it to work..

Cheers

Working fine, operation full success. :)
