Possible bad media... Maybe something (Filter) conflicting with the process in your OS system...

But it has been known to take up to 10 minutes with some Dvd's... Not Hours!

Create an empty drive log file and attach it to your post...

Right click the Red fox>>select create log file>>attach this zip. file

This is a How to:
A. Post an Anydvd .zip log file

a) Ensure Anydvd is running.
b) Put the problematic original movie dvd in your burner. Wait for Anydvd to scan the disc.
c) Right click the red fox icon on your system tray.
d) Select "Create Logfile"
e) Wait for Anydvd to create a log file.
f) A pop-up screen will appear. Take note of the location where Anydvd created the logfile and the logfile's name. Click "ok".
g) Windows Explorer will open, and you will see a zip file called "Anydvd_Info_titleofmydisc.zip" (or something similar; see step f)
h) When replying or posting in the Slysoft forums, look for the icon that looks like (in other words, look for the paperclip after clicking "quote" or when creating a new thread)
i) If you don't see that paperclip icon, click the "go advanced" button. You should see that icon now. Click the paperclip.
j) A small pop-up screen should appear (if it doesn't please ensure your browser is enabled to allow pop-ups from the Slysoft forums)
k) Click the "Browse" button, and locate and select the .zip file you created.
l) click "upload"
m) Close the window. When you submit reply, or submit a new thread, the .zip file will be attached automatically for us to take a look at

B. State the a)full error message(s) you encountered (click "details"), b)tell us what program(s) you were using when you received the error message(s), and c) describe in detail what you were doing when you received the error message(s). What problem are you having exactly?

Sounds more like bad media press. Try another working dvd you bought and give that test and see how long that one takes to scan with Anydvd and that should tell you what is going on. But my money goes to bad media or badly scratched media that won't itself work properly in any stand alone player.

Can't believe you let it set there 3 hours +! You must be a very patient dude.

You must have a good quality drive. Most consumer-level drives will not take hours of indexing/seeking for hours at a time like that. You may well be shortening the effective life of that device and with "china first" the rule of the day that may not be as long as it would have been when such things were built by quality manufacturers.

This is kind of off-topic, but it just proves Frank's point about good-quality drives. I worked on a friends laptop for her because her DVD burner wasn't recognizing discs anymore so I took it out of the laptop and opened it up, tipped it upside down and the lens just fell out, like it was just laying in there. Nice huh. I think HP made the drive(a GT30L or some such). So yeah stick with good-quality drives, LG, Plextor I hear is pretty good, etc.
