does anyone know what CLONE 1 TCE means? This happened when backing up Sherlock Holmes, region 1.

It means, that CloneDVD cannot compress the disc to the target size. What it does not say, is the reason. Mostly it is a decryption problem (AnyDVD not running).

TCE 1 error is a Transcoding Engine Error. It used to mean that the program could not transcode the DVD properly. Try taking out the unwanted audio and try again

I don't think this is the problem. The Clone 1 error should never happen if the source material is fine. But if it is not, e.g, decrypted with incorrect CSS keys, CloneDVD cannot compress (the video is still encrypted) and you will see a lot of "remuxing forced" messages in the log. It will try to compensate and compress more, until it reaches the "point of no return" and aborts with Clone 1 TCE.

For openers, it means that the CloneDVD forum might be the best place to get your answers.

Since James already responded to you... this is a mere rhetorical statement... not meant to abuse you... but to serve as a lesson to the next guy. -W

Update Clone DVD & Any DVD to make your backup it works just fine
