I am having trouble with the single disk "R" rated version Region 1 of Pineapple Express. I have tried in 2 different burners (all other DVD's work to date) and get the same problem. It goes into "Scanning" mode and never comes out. I have left it sit over night now and it is still scanning. If I have the AnyDVD window up when I eject the DVD, it will quickly tell what the disk is and then goes away. (because I ejected the DVD) I am using AnyDVD v. 6.5.1.4. I cannot create a log file because it never stops scanning. I have read in other posts to try turning off the AI setting but cannot seem to find where this setting is. I hope I have provided enough info. Please help.

Thanks,
Scott

Scenario 1:

1. Use Anydvd 6.5.1.4 beta: click http://sandbox.slysoft.com/beta/SetupAnyDVD6514.exe

You may need to reboot after installing if prompted to do so.

2. Click the red fox icon on your toolbar. Click "default". Click "ok".

3. Allow Anydvd up to 10 minutes to scan the disc.

Scenario 2:

a) Keep your license key file backed up safely
b) Uninstall Anydvd (start-->all programs-->Slysoft--->Anydvd-->Uninstall)
c) Reboot
d) Check to see if your system ("my computer") now reports a disc in drive. Do you see a video_ts folder (if you're using a dvd)? Do you see folders or files?

If the answer is "no" to "d)", then Anydvd isn't your problem. As Anydvd is not on your system, Anydvd can't interfere or block the reading process. Possibly your reader or burner is slowing dying, the original disc is bad, or a number of other possibilities exist as well (including messed up ide/sata busdrivers, bad cable on the back of the drive, etc.)

If the answer is "yes", click http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=1559 and follow the steps (note that step 4 requires you to post information)

Long scan time?

3. Allow Anydvd up to 10 minutes to scan the disc.

Is this common to let AnyDVD scan that long? Why does it take that long?

It's not common, no, but older systems and newer protections can require it. The scan time is controlled by the CPU and read speed of the DVD drive. Prince Caspian took a long time for some people. On my system it took maybe 10-15 seconds. In later updates the scan time was improved.

AnyDVD is scanning through the disc to see how it needs to be handled. Sometimes it can take longer and the new protections are getting more complex. Complexity can lead to longer scan times.

I have done everything else and still no luck.

Just to verify, after you uninstall Anydvd, your system can see the disc? Windows Explorer is reporting files? Because if that's not happening, there's not much Anydvd can do.

Another option is to try enabling "safe mode" in Anydvd (program settings-->safe mode).

Yes I can see the files on drive D (see attached screen shot).

I am trying the safemode now but it does not look good. Still scanning.

Thanks,

Scott

Well, given that Anydvd 6.5.1.4 handles this disc fine (and based on what I've been told, it does), I guess I would try returning the disc--and buying it from a different location.

OK here is the latest. I kept safe mode on, and turned off AI scanning. It came up with an error about the DVD being dirty. (I'll give the exact error later if I need to). It then displayed the DVD as read in the AnyDVD status window. I fired up CloneDVD2 and it said that it is trying to repair a defective DVD structure. It is doing that now. I will let you know the results.

Thanks again,

Scott

I don't think that's going to work well for you as this disc requires the A.I. scanner to be active (or set to default settings). Again, I would try returning the disc--and buying it from a different location.

Does AnyDVD report your drive region set to 1?

Does AnyDVD report your drive region set to 1?

@szechman,

i. Right click the fox on your toolbar. Exit Anydvd
ii. Click start. Right click on "My computer"--->select "properties".
iii.Click on the 'Hardware' tab--->click the 'device manager' button.
iv. Open the dvd/cdrom branch---> right click on your optical drive
v. Click "properties".
vi. You should have a region tab. From there you can select a region.
vii. Select the region that you're in
viii. Start Anydvd

Ok, looks like it was a bad DVD. A replacement from the store seemed to do the trick. Thanks everyone for the help. First time I have EVER had a bad DVD right out of the box.

Thanks again,

Scott

First time for you. Here we see it reported 8 times a week.
(and it's always a "new protection" when 1st reported) :D
