I was really hoping to be able to use AnyDVD to get movies onto my iPod.
But it still fails at decrypting the same movies that I couldn't decrypt before I installed it. :(

For example, I tried to rip the Simpsons Season 5 Disk 4 without any luck.
I even tried the "Rip Video DVD to Harddisk" option.

Attached is the Logfile for that DVD.

I installed Vista SR1 and upgraded to AnyDVD 6.4.0.0 and nothing improved.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Any ideas?

Not without a logfile and a full error message . . .

1. Use Anydvd 6.4.0.1: click http://sandbox.slysoft.com/beta/SetupAnyDVD6401.exe

You may need to reboot after installing if prompted to do so.

2. Click the red fox icon on your toolbar. Click "default". Click "ok".

3. Right-click on the fox icon on your toolbar and select "Rip video-dvd to Hard Disk". Choose your source and destination paths. Click "Copy", and wait for Anydvd ripper to finish. You can then import that rip into whatever program you want. This is an important step if the original disc contains structural protection.

4.
a) Ensure Anydvd is running.
b) Put the problematic original movie dvd in your burner. Wait for Anydvd to scan the disc.
c) Right click the red fox icon on your toolbar.
d) Select "Create Logfile"
e) Wait for Anydvd to create a log file.
f) A pop-up screen will appear. Take note of the location where Anydvd created the logfile and the logfile's name. Click "ok".
g) Go to your My Documents folder
h) You will see a zip file called "Anydvd_Info_titleofmydisc.zip" (or something similar; see step f)
i) When replying or posting in the Slysoft forums, look for the icon that looks like
attach.gif
(in other words, look for the paperclip after clicking "quote" or when creating a new thread)
j) If you don't see that paperclip icon, click the "go advanced" button. You should see that icon now. Click the paperclip.
k) A small pop-up screen should appear (if it doesn't please ensure your browser is enabled to allow pop-ups from the Slysoft forums)
l) Click the "Browse" button, and locate and select the .zip file you created.
m) click "upload"
n) Close the window. When you submit reply, or submit a new thread, the .zip file will be attached automatically for us to take a look at

5. State the full a)error message(s) you encountered (click "details"), b)tell us what program(s) you were using when you received the error message(s), and c) describe in detail what you were doing when you received the error message(s). What problem are you having exactly?

6. Click http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=5091 to see if your question has already been answered

Bad disc I believe. Try cleaning it and retry.

Again, thanks for the exceedingly quick responses.

Yes, this is my DVD and being that the kids usually access it, there are a few minor scratched on the disk. But it does play fine. I've had the same thing happen with 1 of the other 4 disks in this set. The other 2 ripped fine. I installed the AnyDVD trial on another PC with the same results - and I did try to clean them first. :-(

I was thinking that it would be easy to transfer them to the iPod and watch at the gym. Is copying really that much more sensitive than viewing? Is there anything else that I can try?

Thanks again,
-- Marc

It can be, yes.

You can try cleaning or taking the disc somewhere to repair the scratches. Some programs can skip over read errors, but then you do end up with an imperfect backup (you may not notice that a few cells are missing if they error is small, but if the read error is large, then you may notice a significant chunk of film missing).

Depends. I assume you didn't use the drive for viewing which you used for reading the disc. It sometimes helps to try a different drive.

Thanks.

Thanks for your help. It seems like 2 or the 4 DVDs in the set are not perfect and cleaning them won't make a difference. I've gotten the same results on another PC, so I'll rule out my DVD drive. It plays fine, so it's a bit annoying. I wish there was a way to work around the bad tracks... my player software can do it.

But this support forum is terrific - probably the most responsive I've ever seen. And from now on.. the kids will only get to use backup DVDs! :)
