AnyDVD blocks access to CD Drives and locks up computer

I have been using AnyDVD for more than a year with no problem.
Today I encountered a problem and have not found a way to resolve it.
If AnyDVD is running when I put in a disc, I get the pop-up saying the disc will be available in a moment, but it never becomes available.
If I try to look at the drive or even open folder window with the drive., the machine becomes unstable. I never get blue screen but usually end up with nothing but my desktop background and no way to shut down except task manager which takes several minuets with lots of "program did not close warnings.

The last two changes were the update to the most recent version 6.3.1.7 (I think) and a Microsoft update of .NET 3.0

I have tried a de-install and reinstall of AnyDVD. About o try a de-install of .NET 3.0 but I am not sure that is possible.

HELP!!!!

EDIT:

Closing AnyDVD or even just disabling it keeps the problem from occurring.
Safe mode does not help at all.

Once it occurs I can not get to the Any DVD control panel to try to re-disable it to see if I get system control back.

I read through the linked post and all the other links.

It seems as if that is the shotgun approach to fixing the problem.
In most cases it seems obvious that most of this does not apply to my problem.

The only thing that seems like it might be close is the step #5 "LockedIO" issue (Maybe, since there is no definition of the symptom)

I prefer not to make lots of changes that have nothing to do with the problem.

AnyDVD sees the drives, and tries to work when a disc is put it, but it never seems to finish its task and seems to hang all process (or most) until a shut down is done (which is really hard with all the hung processes).

No. Not at all. A gummed up filter stack could be causing the problem along with faulty and/or corrupt busmaster drivers. If you want help, then follow the steps. Actually, I have better things to do than trying to pry troubleshooting information out of you. Perhaps someone else will assist you.

Sorry, did not mean it that way.

That post seems to be addressing a wide range undefined of issues (i.e. "AnyDVD does not work at all", etc.)

I am working on the IDE driver now but every test leaves the system unstable and with the painfully slow shut down and restart, I was hoping to find a complaint similar enough to not do the extra steps.

NTIDrv - NTI CD-ROM Driver used by New Tech Infosystems Inc in their burning and ripping engine

I'm pretty sure NTI FileCD, which is packet writing software, installs this driver. Packet writing software often causes problems with Slysoft software and other software in general. If you want drag-and-drop functionality, use dvd-ram instead, which is more stable.

1. Uninstall NTI's Filecd packet writing software, and ensure NTIDrvr no longer appears in your upper filters after rebooting. If you need that drag and drop functionality, use dvd-ram instead.

But if you can't figure out how to remove (or uninstall that program) that filter (or how to check your filters), do this:

i) Create a backup of your registry
ii) Download imgburn. It's a free program: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
(it's also an excellent program imo)
iii) Go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order. Select "NTIDrvr". Click "Remove selected filter". Click "ok".
iv) Reboot

Keep in mind whatever program installed that filter will no longer work properly.

a) Is DMA enabled for your drives in
i) Windows XP?
ii) Windows Vista?
iii) general?

3. Visit your burner's website (and/or optical drive's website), and update your burner's firmware if possible.

4. i. For XP with ide burners

Do what it says to do if you have XP and an ide burner/optical drive.

ii. For Vista with ide burners

Go into device manager, and check to ensure you're using standard Microsoft ide busmaster drivers.

Right click on your PCI IDE Bus Master controller, and remove it. Ensure that it also removes the driver for your DVD/CD rom. Reboot. Your system should find hardware. After your system is finished installing hardware, reboot again.

Other than that I'm out of suggestions. I am unable to reproduce this issue with Vista 64 bit Ultimate edition nor Windows XP Pro 32 bit (two of these systems have .net Framework 3 with latest updates) bit on over four different systems.

So, it sounds like I have found a weird failure? Just my luck!

I just remembered the instant this started.

I put two CDs in two drives at almost the same time.

Could AnyDVD got confused by this? Is there some setting or registry table that I need to delete when reinstalling to get a truly clean install?

If you have non-Sata optical drives, DMA should be enabled. With SATA, DMA should be enabled by default. DMA
should always be enabled.

Sometimes cracks can cause this problem, but I presumed that you were not using a crack.
