Hey everyone, I am new to the Forum and in need of some help. I have been an AnyDVD user for quite some time but I have been using another software to shrink the movies before I back them up. I am having trouble with Good Ole Saw 4 being too big.

I read through the other threads but didn't see anyone addressing the "too big" issue.

Can someone give me some guidance please? I am using the 6.3.1.5 version of AnyDVD.

What program are you using?

Rright-click on the fox icon on your toolbar and select "Rip video-dvd to Hard Disk". Choose your source and destination paths. Click "Copy", and wait for Anydvd ripper to finish. You can then import that rip into whatever program you're using.

I am using DVD Shrink still.

Nope, not working. It is giving me a shrink error.

I read your thread on the proper way to back up dvd's. My problem with CloneDVD was the back up copy would not play in some of my DVD players. I would be willing to try CloneDVD again if this was able to be fixed.

Any suggestions?

How does it give you a shrink error? AnyDVD doesn't use shrink...... Right click on the fox icon (in the lower right part of windows by the clock) and select rip video to the hard disk. Now when anydvd is done ripping open shrink select files/folders on the hard drive navigate to the ripped folder and inport to shrink. Now proccess to shrink the contents.

What is giving you a shrink error? And what is the full error message?

First, if the backup is playing in a standalone dvd player or on your computer that means Clonedvd worked.

The most common reason why you're having this problem (if the backup doesn't work in a standalone dvd player) is due to a compatibility issue between the blank media you're using and whatever you're using to play the backup in (standalone dvd player, for example). Basically your dvd player, dvd-rom drive, etc. doesn't like the blank media you're using (or if you're using +R media, you didn't change the booktype to "dvd-rom"). You can try choosing other blank media (+r instead of -r, for example, and change the booktype to "dvd-rom")--or buy a different standalone dvd player (or a different dvd-rom drive, burner, etc.).

If you're using dvd-r media and your standalone dvd player gives you a message similar to ""Play Prohibited, please check disc", use dvd+r media instead and change the booktype to "dvd-rom" (see "b)" below).

a) Are you using junk blank media? If you're not using Taiyo Yuden (not valueline), Verbatim, Maxell Plus, or Maxell Broadcast Quality, then chances are the answer to this question is "yes".
b) Click this and read FULLY (especially take a look at point 4 for more information on bitsetting/booktyping, but all points are very important)

The same factors also apply to why the backup doesn't play in your computer (but there can be other factors including buggy or poorly installed dvd player software, bad drivers, etc.).

It's also possible the playback device/player that can't play the disc is slowly dying.

Webslinger asked me what program I used to Shrink the DVD before I backed it up. I stated I use DVD Shrink with AnyDVD. I have already tried to rip the video to the hard drive and Shrink is not recognizing the file AnyDVD ripped to the hard drive. I am trying it again to be sure I ripped it correctly. It looks like it might be blowing up when it tries to copy.

Remove the original disc from your drive after you rip with Anydvd and before using Shrink. That will ensure you're not selecting the wrong source in Shrink. In Shrink, choose the folder you created with Anydvd ripper.

Hey Guys,

Ok so I was finally able to successfully rip the DVD to the hard drive and open it in my shrinking program.

For some reason when I was trying to rip it, it was shutting down (probably due to something I was doing) so I walked away and let it do its thing. I am about to back it up onto a disk so I will let you know if it is successful.

Webslinger, you are da bomb. I am lovin this new (new to me) forum, I used another big one before this but since I am a loyal AnyDVD'er, this one works better for me.

Look............. Slysoft is the Best DVD Backup Software on the Planet! I had no problems with SAW4. I use the most current versions of AnyDVD & CloneDVD2 (Region1). I buy the Movies, but only watch the backup copy, which is legal. I backed up the movie-only (DVD to DVD) using my single drive writer - not cloning the DVD......... and no problems whatsoever!

If you guy's would stick to utilizing one vendor (Slysoft), you wouldn't experience the problems you have using multiple vendors !!!!
