DVD Burners...

I was wondering what type of DVD Burners everyone is using and if you are satisfied with them. I myself use two Lite-On 18X LH-18A1P. Quite happy with them so far. Only had them for about a month. Gets the job done.

DVD Burners

I use Sony and Samsung DVD burners. Both are very good burners and have not had a problem with them after a few months of use. I had 2 Lite-On Burners and worked fine for a few months. They burned fine,but started having problems reading disks. Check out NewEgg for great prices on DVD burners!!

Plextor/Sony/Lite-on/LG would be my best bets. I am still using the first Plextor that came out, works great!
I hear the slot loader Plextors are not to good, I perfer to have the tray.

My first DVD with RAM was the LG, it read a bad scratched DVD that none of the others would.

Plextor's/Sony's/Lite-on's/Memorex's

I have had 2 Ext. drives, had problems with both, will not buy another.

I use a Plextor PX-716A. It went bad after about 8 months, but they quickly replaced it free and it is working fine a year later. No worries.
I also have an HP litescribe 840B just for fun.

I have a Lite-on EZ-Dub external, works great.

I am looking into the Samsung Superwrite-master with Lightscribe direct disc labeling. A buddy of mine has it and it looks pretty neat.

These are the drives I have installed and they all work quite well. The Lite-On LH20A1H is the fastest, but my preferred reader is the BenQ 1655 and my favorite burner is the Samsung SH-S182D. The key is really using top quality media.

I totally agree use the best media verbatim or TY media and you cant go wrong

I have three burners now (in my sig) that I just recently purchased. I really like all three. I chose them from reading various user comments to help me decide.

I use many burners but of late the LG H12 and H22 have been my most used. And from what i get my best burn results.

But as you can see in my sig, i love the benq drives too. :agree: :agree:

I have LG, Samsung, Sony, Lite-On, Plextor and Pioneer (3 of them).

My favorite/most reliable are by far Pioneer and Plextor.

LG: doen't last long, not reliable with double layers.
Samsung: incompatible with most Double Layer medias
Sony: OK, but not a double layer.
Lite-on: Firmware issues - piece of crap
Plextor: Great... But $expensive$...
Pioneer: The best. Keep your firmware updated.

My friends have some BenQ = Stay away from that piece of crap... is their message.

Plextor is the best BUT are going to stop producing drives in the near future.

only problem with Pioneer is you can't booktype DVD+R media to DVD-ROM without hacked firmware

I use Plextor PX 760 SA. I prefer Plextor. I think they have the best CD/DVD writers. I never had problems with Plextor.

to bad Plextor is going to stop making drives the PX-716A is the best drive ever made IMHO

My drives are listed in my sig- All with the philips chip sets except for the plexy!!!!!.

After booktyping the plus format media to dvd-rom,good luck on finding any players that won't recognize the backups from them.

Which model #'s?

On the fly,1 coaster every 500+ backups,backups play anywhere that is desired,and I can't even kill any of my Q's. Almost 4000 on my original 1620A and still holding strong.

I agree with most of the stuff here, I use Plextor's as my first choice in builds, but also Liteon , Samsung and Pioneer when I am in a hurry.

What I have to add is that the FIRMWARE is readily upgradeable for many units and I would not use one that doesn't have this facility, always use this if its available especially if failures are becoming apparent, sometimes its a new method used in manufacturing the discs that the old firmware can't handle. I have one Plextor that has been going for years, its firmware has taken any upgrade offered and it still burns well, slow(x2), but well.
Also Plextor seems expensive but the units carry a very good warranty, the few times that I have used it I have had a replacement by the next working day.

I use a Plextor 760a and a Samsung H552b. Both work great. The Plextor is primary. A good price to, only $70.
