I created a profile for The Sims 2 Deluxe (package of Sims 2 and Nightlife in single install) yesterday and all was good.

Today it does not work, but if I change my system date to 10/7, it resumes working. After several date changes and reboots, it's consistently working with 10/7 date, but fails with others.

I can live with this, but it would be nice if I didn't have to change the date before and after playing.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Paul

Curiously, I ran it with the DVD in the drive today. Now it works today, but doesn't yesterday or tomorrow.

You should verify which version of Game Jackal you are using. 2.9.18.610 is the latest version. The 2.9.18.15 version then would be pretty old at this point, and might have problems with some games.

I just installed it right after Thanksgiving. I verified that it is version 2.9.18.610.

Can you post "profile.log" and "launcher.log"

Currently I have installed GJ on 2 WIN XP Pro PCs. They both have different processors, motherboards, DVD drives, etc. They both experience the same problem. The only way that I can get Sims 2 to run is to either use the original DVD or to change the date of my PC to the date that the profile was created.

Very odd... this is one of our test games and we don't have any problems with it. The reason the date thing is an issue is that Securom (in their wisdom) look at different sectors based on the day of the month. Anyway, one way to combat the issue would be to start the GJ profile (with the cd in the drive) on every day of the month... that way GJ will capture all sector required.

Not the most elegant solution but all I can thing of atm

I get it! So, if I put the DVD in on the 13th of December it will run on the 13th of any month. So I have to load the profile 31 times to get each day. So one way to cover all 31 days would be to create the profile. After the profile is created go on to step 2, I leave the DVD in change the date in Windows and launch Sims 2 and quit out of the game and let GJ do it's thing. Once GC is complete I can repeat step fo the remaining days.
Well since this is my 10 year olds game, I'll let her go through this process.

Thanks for the help, I hope a better fix comes soon.

Well GJ should prevent this... however in your case it's not and I don't know why.

If the copy protection capture information is shared with Slysoft(to catch which sectors hold the protection), then a new profile map could be released in a new version to capture all the information required. It won't help in the short term, but in 31 days, Slysoft would have the full sector map needed to make working profiles in one pass.

As far as The Sims 2 is concerned, this isn't "The Sims 2", it is "The Sims 2 Deluxe". The old game CDs used Safedisk while the new "Deluxe" version uses SecureROM. I don't know about the setup over at Slysoft for QA, but the Deluxe version may not be in the test group while the original is.

The version of securom used should not be an issue. I wonder... can anyone confirm that they have this working?

True.

Note that the copy protection has changed, not the version of SecureROM. I have the original "The Sims 2", but SecureROM is now being used by EA for their copy protection on newer titles. So, if you select "The Sims 2" from the profile list, that won't work for The Sims 2 Deluxe.

Hmmm... but it should (even with Securom). The profile list doesn't care about the copy protection used. Really need to find someone that has this working... anyone???

I also have this issue, but with World in Conflict. I have COD4 setup and I've had no problems with that profile.
I have to update the profile once the date changes. If I manually adjust the date back a day, the profile works fine.
I am using the trial version right now just to see if everything works okay before I purchase it. I own all the other slysoft products and they work great.

I'm also having this same problem with world in conflict. I bet the issue is that we have a newer patch to the game installed than the profile used. I have the latest patch (1005) installed and the game jackal profile only works for one day.

Ok, never mind about the patch idea. I uninstalled and reinstalled and still have the same problem. any ideas? (other than updating the profile 31 times.. ) To test i just installed the game, created a profile selecting "world in conflict" as the profile map. It works great, then change the date and it fails.

Thanks,
Ron
