Samsung svi video format?

SlySoft: any chance you can incorporate the video format used by some of the Samsung mp3 players (e.g. YP-T9xx). I understand it is a "proprietary" format used by Samsung, and is a container format for mpeg 4 encoded file with a resolution of 208x176 at 15fps and audio of 44.1 khz at 128 kbps.

I also read somewhere that the encoded file is actually a regular mp4 file in the above format, but with a special header.

Anyone else like to see this? Thanks, great products by the way.

Still no reply from Slysoft? Also like to see this for Samsung YP-P2 480x272 30fps WQVGA SVI format (audio wma or mp3).
As the P2 is supposed to be the iPod Touch "killer" (and is sold out almost everywhere) presumably it will be a popular format? This Samsung player can use WM10+ for WMV9 formats or MPEG4 (but only if converted to SVI).
I own CloneDVD2, CloneCD5, AnyDVD HD - please give me a reason to buy CloneDVD Mobile and make a matching set! (You probably guessed I just bought a Samsung YP-P2 )

Bluray, as Slysoft has not responded, you may be interested in this link which shows you how to do it yourself - more effort required, but at least it gets the job done without using Samsung Media Centre or Windows Media Player 10+ - I'm trying it out right now.

Well, it works fine for the conversion - 30 minutes for a 41 minute HDTV show on a fairly slow system (Sempron 1.6GHz 512MB DDR-400). Only plays audio in Windows Media Player, but I installed latest Zoom Player Pro which plays video with audio in sync. File size 146MB at 480x272 30fps stereo audio 128kbps. Can't test it on the YP-P2 because it is still gift-wrapped to go under the tree for my son
Edit: After installing Zoom Player Pro the .svi now plays properly in Windows Media Player also, so one of the filters/codecs from Zoom was needed (it was ffdshow).

Well, now it is unwrapped and WM10 doesn't sync the "fake" svi file - can't drag 'n drop either - format not supported by device.

Samsung Media Studio converted files sync ok and look pretty good.
UPDATED FIRMWARE 2.08 available 22-Dec-2007 for YP-P2 adds AAC format support (plus other improvements including Bluetooth/cellphone connection) - see

EDIT: Doesn't like CloneDVDMobile "Generic WMV/WMA (experimental)" either - WM10 synced it across to YP-P2 without conversion but Samsung player says "unsupported file format" - "Generic Dvix" file works ok but only after Samsung Media Studio conversion to its own .svi format (so double the time, almost). Trying a home-brewed devices.ini section next.

DEVICE.INI suggestions

This (LONG) post assumes you have a DVD (which you own, of course) which you want to get onto your Samsung YP-P2 MTP player (if you are interested in converting anything else, then do NOT read on as it will be irrelevant to CloneDVDMobile use).

These device.ini sections are based on the CloneDVDMobile Generic DivX and Generic WMV (experimental) as well as XviD settings used by BADAK encoder. I have not posted them to the device.ini thread started by Lostinlodos because the output cannot be used directly on an MTP version of the YP-P2 without passing through a Samsung Media Studio conversion.

Note: Samsung only supports wmv9 or its own svi format (using firmware 2.08 released 20Dec2007), so you need to pass the resulting output from CloneDVDMobile through Samsung Media Studio (version 5.2.0.2 released 20Dec2007), otherwise you will receive an "unsupported file format" error on the YP-P2. Samsung Media Studio checks for a software metadata tag [ISFT] SSGP with an embedded hex code (generated by its own media encoder frontend) which I have been unable to recreate (pasted below):

The best device.ini selection for me is the XviD option because it is very fast converting it again through the Samsung program (it matches its own settings) and it allows letterbox zooming when necessary. File size is around 650mb for a 90 minute movie and the quality is excellent (video bitrate 798kbps, audio 128kbps). I have tried many iterations of all three and both the DviX and WMV options have their own peculiarities when Samsung Media Studio is put into the mix (it seems to be very arbitrary about applying the "settings" that you choose for conversion - sometimes it uses them, other times it doesn't).

If you want the smallest file size possible, then use the WMV device.ini and "Low" Samsung Media Studio conversion option. The DivX option gives a more accurate file size based on the "slider" than the XviD (which basically ignores the slider), but it is slower to convert again through Samsung Media Studio (which also is likely to ignore your options as to its own output, to the point of increasing the bitrate from 420kbps with the DivX selection to its own maximum of 1000kbps - and the file size increases accordingly).

If you want a high quality file and minimum conversion time, the XviD option seems to be the way to go.

After more testing, I've revised my opinion because the WMV profile is much faster in creating files, and there have been no lipsync issues - as I need low bitrate to fit more movies on the YP-P2, the quality becomes less relevant anyway

Here are my DivX and Xvid profiles for DualCore processors which enable multithreading (WMV 8 can't use that). All tested and quality sliders working OK, output ready for Samsung Media Studio to convert.

If you have lipsync issues with the XviD profile (I don't get any with the DivX or WMV profiles, but have noticed it on some XviD output), you might try changing the mopts to add the following:
-audio-preload 0.8 -delay 0.1

Thanks to KnoWei for this constant bit rate setting - add it to -lameopts in DivX and Xvid profiles (Samsung Media Studio uses cbr of 128kbps for YP-P2).
